Tottenham Hotspur had a difficult moment to deal with this summer transfer window when club captain Son Heung-min announced that he was leaving the club after spending 10 years in North London.
It was an emotional moment for the player and fans alike. Sonny was genuinely one of the most likeable and least-hated characters going around in world football and even opposition fans always had a soft spot for him.
The South Korean is now set to continue his career in the MLS with LA FC breaking their league’s transfer record to sign the 33-year-old veteran this summer. It is a new challenge for Son that he must be looking forward to.
Now, as per Spanish outlet Cadena SER (h/t Team Talk ),Tottenham are plotting a first bid worth around £52.2m to submit to Real Madrid in the coming days, having identified Brazilian superstar Rodrygo as their Son Heung-min replacement.
The 24-year-old attacker isn’t having the best of times at the Spanish capital, struggling to be a regular starter and Xabi Alonso and there is a good chance that he leaves Madrid this summer.
With all due respect though, if Spurs were to submit this bid for Rodrygo, Madrid would laugh them out of their rooms. Rodrygo is one of the best young players in the world and there is no reason for Los Blancos to entertain such a measly opening offer.

Of course, Spurs might want to play these negotiations out like a marathon and this could be a low-ball to kick-start proceedings. However, the fee that they are offering is way too low for a player of Rodrygo’s calibre.
Even Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. has been impressed by the 24-year-old’s exploits while playing for Real Madrid. He even put on an Instagram story some time ago with the words: “How this kid plays is a joke!.”
The situation at Real Madrid is such that the club already has bonafide superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. who are not going anywhere, making it almost impossible for Rodrygo to co-exist in a functional system.
Tottenham would benefit from having a Rodrygo-esque player in their ranks, especially to soften the blow of losing Son Heung-min this summer. However, they need to get more serious with their bidding. Let’s wait and see how things play out.
