Tottenham Hotspur may miss out on Real Madrid star Rodrygo as Man City enter the market for his signature

Tottenham are in dire need of new attackers as the Lilywhites get ready for a new era at N17. The Lilywhites are already without Heung-Min Son for the upcoming season, after the South Korean called quits on his Spurs career earlier last week. Now, Daniel Levy must look to bring in a new winger that would provide some depth going forward and compete for a spot in the starting eleven.

There is possibility that Mathys Tel will play as the first-choice left-winger under Thomas Frank if the North London club fail to lure a new attacker. The Frenchman joined Spurs from Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal in January. And the Lilywhites converted that loan into a permanent deal in the summer after seeing the 20-year-old’s potential and high ceiling.

That being said, playing Mathys Tel week in week out is a risky move by Spurs, considering the player is still learning his trade. The North London club are aiming to compete hard on all four fronts in the upcoming season, so signing a new attacker is the right way to go.

Tottenham face competition from PL rival for Real Madrid star Rodrygo

Tottenham endured a slow start to the transfer window after failing to land several intended targets. However, things are about to change for the better as the Lilywhites are finally picking up pace in the market and aiming to bring in new players before the new season commences. The North London club want to add more depth to the flanks, so signing a new winger is seen as a priority.

It was reported earlier that Spurs are keeping tabs on Real Madrid star Rodrygo. The Brazil international has fallen down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso, and the North London club have taken notice of that. The report also stated that the only issue with the 24-year-old’s proposed move to N17 is the high wages that he is on at Real Madrid.

However, that is not the only issue Tottenham will face if they want to land the world-class winger. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), Manchester City have entered the race to sign Rodrygo as the Cityzens prepare for James McAtee, Savinho and Jack Grealish’s departures. Romano also shares that Real Madrid are asking around €100m for his services, and they will let the winger leave if he wants to go.

This is a hammer blow for Spurs as their hopes of signing the highly-rated winger has diminished. The potential transfer to N17 may not happen due to the knock-on effect of Tottenham’s deal with Manchester City to sign Savinho. The City winger is keen to move to North London, and there is a profound belief in the Spurs camp that an agreement will be made for Savinho’s signature.
