Tranmere Rovers officially sign son of Manchester United legend

Manchester United have seen several famous footballing families emerge over the years, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s son continues to attract huge attention as he progresses through the youth ranks.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. has already represented Portugal at youth level and has been tipped to follow in his father’s footsteps after coming through the academies of Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United and now Al-Nassr.

Football supporters are always intrigued when the son of a famous player makes the next step in their career.

Another well-known footballing surname has now completed a new move in English football.

Tranmere Rovers welcome Manchester United legend’s son

Tranmere Rovers have officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Tom Ince on a two-year contract from Championship side Watford.

The 34-year-old has made more than 550 senior appearances during a career which has included spells with Liverpool, Blackpool, Crystal Palace, Hull City, Derby County, Stoke City, Huddersfield Town, Reading and Watford.

However, Tom is also the son of former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince.

Paul spent six seasons at Old Trafford between 1989 and 1995, making 281 appearances for the club and helping Sir Alex Ferguson’s side win two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, the League Cup, the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the European Super Cup.

The former England international also made history by becoming the first Black player to captain the England men’s national team.

Following his playing career, Paul moved into management and even reunited with Tom at Blackpool in 2013.

Speaking after completing his move to Tranmere, Tom admitted he still has the hunger to continue competing despite entering the later stages of his career.

“It’s a great feeling, bit full circle for me. I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

“The good thing about it for me is that I have that hunger and that desire still. I think that’s what’s allowed me to have the career that I’ve been able to have, the amount of games I’ve been able to play and the level I’ve been able to reach.”

Tranmere manager Darrell Clarke added that Ince’s experience, creativity and versatility will provide an important boost as the club prepares for the 2026/27 campaign.
