Vinícius Júnior has been one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer as the Real Madrid star continues to be linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabéu to North London.

The Brazilian, who is coming off his involvement with Brazil at the FIFA World Cup, has one year remaining on his contract with Real Madrid and speculation suggests the club and the player have reached a standstill in contract negotiations.

Madrid's pursuit of Yan Diomande has only added to the uncertainty surrounding Vinícius' future, despite new manager José Mourinho reportedly making it clear that he has no intention of letting the winger leave.

Real Madrid is also said to be preparing an improved contract worth a $23.4 million (€20 million) net base salary per year, with the deal potentially rising to $35.1 million (€30 million) through performance-related bonuses.

Meanwhile, fresh claims suggest Premier League champions Arsenal are prepared to break their club wage record to bring the 26-year-old to London.

Mikel Arteta will be looking to strengthen his squad after guiding Arsenal to its first Premier League title in 22 years last season, while also reaching the UEFA Champions League final.

According to The Telegraph, the Gunners are willing to improve on Vinícius' current salary, which is believed to be around $468,000 (€400,000) per week.

Other reports have suggested the figure could exceed $550,000 (€470,000) per week.

For Arteta, the two-time UEFA Champions League winner would be an ideal addition as Arsenal looks to defend its league title, especially after Leandro Trossard's departure and with Gabriel Martinelli continuing to be linked with a move away.

If the transfer is completed, Vinícius would become Arsenal's highest-paid player, overtaking Bukayo Saka's reported $427,000 (€365,000) weekly salary.
