San Diego’s Jacob “Zeke” Szekely is a surf world firestarter.
From the days when he notoriously competed while wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor, to today as a notable surf vlogger, Zeke is rambunctious, not afraid to speak his mind regarding surf world happenings, and wildly talented on a variety of surf craft.
Tune into Zeke’s YouTube channel, and you’re bound to find something both exciting and controversial. Like below, where he paddled out at one of California’s best and most heated lineups to attempt a surf stunt with potential to piss off the locals.
The soft-top board transfer isn’t a common surf maneuver. It’s cumbersome. Hence, the potential for rubbing people the wrong way while surfing a firing day at Rincon, aka the Queen of the Coast. But Zeke gave it a go anyway; and to his surprise, nobody punched him in the face for it.
“That was the best session I’ve ever had in my entire life,” Zeke said. “Going on record. That was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Quite possibly the most fun session I’ve ever had. It’s firing. Four-to-six foot, light offshore wind, perfect Rincon.”
Back to the board transfers, which Zeke has been on a kick recently. He pulled one off in a WSL event, the “first ever,” he claimed. And at Rincon:
“The board transfers…it’s an easy way to get kicked out of spot for life. Easy way to piss off the locals. But for some reason, everyone was stoked on me. I highly recommend against doing that at a place like this. But I had a blast. Checked it off the bucket list – board transfers at firing Rincon. That was such a sick sesh.”
Somehow, he didn’t get punched out or kicked out. For that, he was grateful:
“Thanks to the 805 crew for hosting us and having us. Tried to be as respectful as I could. Sorry for bringing two boards into the lineup at Rincon. Much love.”
