The insane stoke levels delivered via the massive Eddie swell are still rippling throughout the world. To be clear, the waves themselves are long gone but the footage and memories are still ripe in our collective surf consciousness. Waves ridden at Jaws and Mavericks are still being measured and waves at spots all throughout the Pacific Coast are still being shared and frothed on.
Point in case, let's float down to Peru where Lucca Mesinas and crew scored perfect, reeling barrels in the land of lefts. As a goofyfoot, my mouth is watering watching this edit. The waves aren't huge but sure look solid and provided deep pits and long visions for anyone who could handle the fast drop and thick lip.
The first part of the edit is at Cabo Blanco, a spot Gabriel Media scored in his last visit (prior to his shoulder injury) a trip that had the 3x World Champ reeling on just how good the waves were. The wave pitches over with a heavy lip out front of some rocks and proceeds to grind and barrel down the point with some surfers expertly navigating the tube from behind the curtain. Starting off at a few feet overhead, with a thick lip, and a fast takeoff that leaves little room for error and often includes a bit of an air drop to quick positioning into the tube.
Around the 3:45 mark the location shifts to "ubicación desconocida" (unknown location) somewhere in Northern Peru where we see just as perfect lefts with an increase in size and decrease in crowd. Surfers like Gabriel Vargas, Sebastian Tello, and Juano Saravia, take on the tubes with vigor and navigate into position and then stall to get as deep as possible before seeking an exit.
In the final section we watch as surfers like Taro Watanabe attack a wave that looks like a beefier version of the Lowers Left. Again, as a goofyfoot, I'm drooling over all of these waves and making a mental note to book a flight to Lima the next time a giant west swell pops up on the charts and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
