'After the tournament, I'll eat more' - Iga Swiatek on abstaining from tiramisu during the 2025 Rome Open

Former World No.1 Iga Swiatek looked dominant in her opening round match at the 2025 Rome Open, and this may have been aided by her refusal to indulge in one of her favorite desserts during the WTA 1000 event.

The Polish star was coming off a disappointing exit at the Madrid Open, where she was humbled in straight sets by Coco Gauff during their semifinal encounter. Therefore, Swiatek seemed to hold nothing back in her first match in Rome, scoring a brutal 6-1 6-0 victory over home favorite Elisabetta Cocciaretto to advance to the third round.

Dessert can wait, jokes Swiatek

Following her impressive victory, Swiatek made a brief appearance on The Tennis Channel for a post-match interview. After admitting her love for Tiramisu, an Italian dessert, the reigning Roland Garros champion was asked how many times she had eaten the treat during her brief stay in Rome.

"What's your Tiramisu count so far?" asked the host.

"Off." responded Swiatek. "I am a little bit (holding off). But after the tournament, I'll eat more. Maybe today, after the win. But yeah, I need to keep it easy right?
"I mean I'm eating a lot of pasta anyway so I can't do too much with the carbs."

Swiatek will face familiar foe Danielle Collins in the third round, with the duo last meeting in a highly charged affair at the 2024 Summer Olympics. The American defeated Romanian Elene Ruse in straight sets to book her third round meeting against Swiatek.
