Rafael Nadal Predicts Amazing Future for Carlos Alcaraz After Record-Breaking US Open Win

Carlos Alcaraz ended this year’s Grand Slam events with two titles by beating his arch-rival Jannik Sinner. After the thrilling French Open final, which the Spaniard won after tough five sets against the World No.2, he spoiled Sinner’s US Open title defense goal.

It was Alcaraz’s second US Open win, and it made him the second youngest man (Bjorn Borg is the first) to win six Grand Slam titles, surpassing Rafael Nadal. The 22-time Grand Slam champion, who called time on his career after Spain’s defeat to the Netherlands at the Davis Cup last year, said during his interview with RNE that if his compatriot keeps injuries at bay, then he can win many Majors.

This career seems to be heading towards something unique. I hope it will be very long, which is what he needs to reach certain heights. I hope the injuries will be under control and everything will go well for him. He already has six Grand Slams under his belt, but let’s not talk about them. Six Grand Slams is an incredible number, but I hope he wins as many as possible.

Alcaraz’s critics labeled him as inconsistent whenever he failed to reach finals or win titles in multiple consecutive events. But this year, it was not the case.

The 22-year-old has so far played nine finals and lifted seven titles, five of which fall under the category of Big Titles (three Masters 1000s and two Majors). Alcaraz will next be playing the China Open, where last year he defeated Sinner to win his first title on the Asian swing.

Patrick Mouratoglou on what Jannik Sinner must do to challenge Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner, after his US Open disappointment, said his tennis has become a lot more predictable, and that one of his next goals is to work toward adding more variety to his game. Sinner also said that he is ready to lose matches while implementing the changes.

Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, gave his take on how Sinner can improve to challenge Carlos Alcaraz.

So he knows that from now on, he’s going to serve and volley more, drop shot more, probably more variety in the game in general, change of pace, stuff like that. He will do it during the matches, because he needs this to become a habit, something automatic, and he’s prepared to pay the price for the progress he needs to do to beat Alcaraz in the future.

Since 2024, Sinner has faced Alcaraz eight times so far and could win just once- at Wimbledon. He now trails 5-10 in the head-to-head matchups with the six-time Grand Slam champion.

So far this season, the 24-year-old has played six finals and clinched two titles, losing the rest to Alcaraz. He defended his Australian Open crown by beating Alexander Zverev, following which, he was forced to stay on the sidelines for three months due to his doping case.

Sinner has played every Grand Slam final this season, and this made him the youngest man to do so. Last year on the Asian swing, he played two finals: he lost the China Open to Alcaraz but beat Novak Djokovic to win the Shanghai Masters.

Sinner did not defend five titles this year, including the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open, and eventually dropped to the second spot in the rankings. Alcaraz dethroned him after the US Open, reclaiming the No.1 ranking for the first time since September 2023.

The Murcia native became the World No.1 after his career’s first Grand Slam win at the 2022 US Open, and the following year, Djokovic removed him after winning his 24th Major at the US Open.
