Borderlands 4 literally released hours ago, and people have a lot to say about the game already. Borderlands is an action role-playing first-person looter shooter video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. In terms of gameplay mechanics, looting, combat, and visuals, players say they understood the assignment. There’ve been some reservations about the story, calling it lackluster and shallow. Here’s a complete review of Borderlands 4 and what players have to say about the game just hours after its release.
Borderlands 4 hasn’t even been out for a day, and already, people are talking about it. This newest installment of the series does what you would expect in a Borderlands game: give you high-energy, looter shooter gameplay that Borderlands is known for, but a lot more refined and seamless compared to previous installments. The looting is pretty addictive, and this game offers a lot more flexibility in movement, such as double jumps, gliding, and grappling.
The intricate skill system and unique play styles of all the characters make you want to grind on the game and put in hundreds of hours in the game. Even the loot reward system is pretty satisfying. The game has that same Borderlands’ funky art style, though it tones down all the vibrant colors, instead opting for a lighter color palette pleasing to the eyes. The game is an upgrade from previous installments, though players have certain reservations about the story.
Though players are having a lot of fun with this game, they’ve expressed disappointment with the lackluster story. In this game, the story is set on the planet Kairos, run by the Timekeeper, the big bad in this game. However, people are finding themselves comparing him to Handsome Jack, one of the more iconic villains in the Borderlands universe. Apparently, he is not as memorable as Handsome Jack, but I mean, come on, it’s Handsome Jack for Christ’s sake!
Apart from a lackluster story and a not-so memorable main antagonist, people have also experienced poor performance issues while playing. Hundreds of users have reported bugs, low frame rates, a lot of stuttering and crashing, even when adjusting the graphics settings on their game. Not a great start for Borderlands, and I think Gearbox has to put up a patch quickly to fix this issue.
Players were absolutely stoked for the release of this game; however, hours after its release, there have been way too many people experiencing issues in the game, also leading to disappointment with the story and the main villain. I guess we just have to wait and see if these performance issues will get fixed in a future patch of the game, and how the reception of the game will change, if at all.
