The Edge of Fate in Destiny 2 has seen wholesale changes. The new power system has allowed Bungie to alter the difficulty of their activities. Legacy raids and dungeons formed part of this update. For many, the increase in difficulty felt unwarranted as it punished players for playing older content. It made it worse, given that these do not award any higher-tier gear, making them obsolete to run.

In a tweet yesterday, the Destiny 2 Team announced the changes they are making to raids and dungeons in Destiny 2. The target for these changes is set for next week, on Tuesday. The list of changes is:

  • We will be updating the difficulty for Legacy Raid and Dungeon activities to address player feedback.
    • The Combat Difficulty for normal and master modes will be reduced by 10 Power.
  • We will also be updating difficulty and the “Combined Mastery” Triumph in the Desert Perpetual Raid to address player feedback.
    • Base Combat Difficulty will be lowered by 10 Power: Enemies will deal less damage, and players will be able to deal more damage.
  • We will be lowering the Cutthroat Combat Raid Feat, specifically the Combat Difficulty, by 10 Power.
    • Was +40 combatant power, will be +30 combatant power.
  • We will be lowering the “Combined Mastery” Triumph to only require a single completion at base difficulty, which will upgrade Gear rewards by one tier, depending on the number of feats active.
    • Example: Instead of getting a T1 reward, you’ll get a T2 reward. Layering on additional feats will increase difficulty but also help you get to T3 rewards and beyond.

Did They Hit the Mark?

Base raids and dungeons do not need to be as challenging as they currently are in terms of incoming and outgoing damage. Yes, there should be some challenge, but players should not have been playing cautiously at every turn. The changes in that regard are positive. However, lowering the difficulty of the contest level feat is a mistake. The purpose of it is to give the contest experience. It is intended for players with optimised builds and gameplay. Furthermore, gaining access to the higher-tier loot faster is good, but players should be rewarded for completing the raid on contest difficulty. A tier-five drop should be the minimum for players wanting to test themselves.
