Angel Reese Shares Exciting Update After Viral Joke

Chicago Sky Forward Angel Reason quickly established herself as a budding young star during her rookie season in the WNBA in 2024.

Aside from breaking the WNBA's record for rebounds in a rookie season (446), Reese was also named a WNBA All-Star during her inaugural season in the league. However, while she is more known for her rebounding prowess, her offensive struggles have been a common topic this season.

Although she is averaging a double-double with 11.3 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, fans have frequently hounded her for the fact that they feel most of her rebounds come off of her misses.

The joke was so heavily repeated that Brandon “Bishop B Hen” Hendricks of Jeff Teague's "Club 520" show began calling them "Mebounds." Those who are frequent critics of Reese gravitated to the phrase immediately, but so did Reese.

She trademarked the phrase shortly after it gained traction online, and on Thursday, shared to her Instagram Story that she is now releasing "Mebounds" merchandise.

The specific crop top in the photo is called the "Angel Reese "Mebounds Trademark" Crop Top."

Under "Mebounds," which is written in bold, is a breakdown of what exactly she trademarked and also features a line that cites Angel Reese LLC as the owner. Per her website, it is retailing for $35.

Whether or not fans are necessarily fans of Reese getting in on the joke, it is an example of her being a marketing savant. She took what was initially weaponized as a phrase to degrade her and her game, and turned it into something that will make her money.

A move similar to that of former NFL star Brian Bosworth, who tricked opposing fans who hated him into buying a "Ban the Boz" shirt back in 1987, when ultimately he produced the shirts and used the money to donate to charity.

As for when fans may see more "Mebounds," Reese and the Sky (4-10) are set to take on the Golden State Valkyries (7-7) at the Chase Center, Friday at 10:00 p.m. ET in a game that will air on ION.
