Angel Reese’s Fired Coach Teresa Weatherspoon Lands New Job
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Teresa Weatherspoon’s tenure as head coach of the Chicago Sky ended on Sept. 26 after a season in which the team finished 13-27 in Angel Reese’s rookie year.

Despite adding Reese and fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso to the roster, the Sky failed to improve on their 18-22 record from 2023. They missed the WNBA playoffs, ultimately leading to Weatherspoon’s dismissal after just a season-and-a-half in Chicago.

Just over a month later, on Nov. 4, the Sky hired Tyler Marsh as their new head coach. But for Weatherspoon, she had to wait just a little longer to find her next home.

On Friday, Unrivaled announced that she has been hired as the head coach of one of the six Unrivaled basketball teams.

Weatherspoon joins Phil Handy, Adam Harrington, Nola Henry, DJ Sackmann and Andrew Wade as coaches for Unrivaled's new 3-on-3 basketball league.

The inaugural season tips off in January and will be played during each WNBA offseason in Miami.

The league was created by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, and it’s already drawing some of the top talent in the game. In addition to Stewart and Collier, some names who will take the court include Reese, Kelsey Plum, Brittney Griner and Arike Ogunbowale.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has yet to announce a decision on whether she will play.

Weatherspoon, 58, played eight seasons in the WNBA, spending seven of those with the New York Liberty and her final season with the Los Angeles Sparks.

After retiring, she transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans for a few seasons before taking over as head coach of the Sky.
