Angel Reese's Message on WNBA Team is Bad Look for Chicago Sky

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky are in action on Wednesday night in a home game at Wintrust Arena. The Sky will be aiming to break out of their current four-game losing streak as they look to improve on their 9-30 record — one that has them sitting at the No. 12 spot in the WNBA, just one game ahead of the league-worst Dallas Wings.

Despite another wasted season for Chicago, Reese remains fully confident in her team and its players. As a matter of fact, the 23-year-old is adamant that the Sky are a better team than one particular side that is currently on the brink of securing a playoff berth in its inaugural season, the Golden State Valkyries.

“Watching Golden State — no offense, but I don’t think they’re more talented than us on paper,” Reese told Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune in a recent interview. “But they play hard as hell. So starting at the top, we’ve got to find an identity of what we’re going to be next year and then roll with the punches of what we can get.”

While some folks might translate this message as Reese taking a shot at the Valkyries, it’s also hard to deny that it puts the Sky in a bad light. The two-time All-Star isn’t exactly throwing shade at Golden State here; instead, she is just speaking what she believes is true in terms of Chicago’s players being more talented than those of the Valkyries.

Despite the supposed disparity, however, it’s Golden State that has a winning record this year. They are 22-18, in the midst of a blistering four-game winning streak and are sixth in the league. The Valkyries are on the verge of booking their spot in the postseason, too, while the Sky are going to miss the playoffs for a second season running.

At the end of the day, Reese’s claim has put the Sky in a somewhat unfavorable light, as a supposedly less talented squad has significantly outperformed them this season due to the Valkyries' identity and effort.

The silver lining, however, is that Reese has already laid out the blueprint for Chicago. She believes that they’re going to be a much better side next season, and it will all start with the Sky finding and establishing their identity.
