Calls Mount for Chicago Sky to Make Major Roster Move After Consecutive Blowout Losses
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Sky fell 99-74 to the New York Liberty on Thursday night, dropping to 0-2 on the season. After a 93-58 loss to the Indiana Fever on Saturday, they’ve been outscored by a combined 60 points in their first two games, with both opponents scoring in the 90s.

There have been few bright spots for the Sky under new head coach Tyler Marsh. While they’ve faced two of the league’s stronger teams in the Fever and Liberty, these results suggest the team may be further from contention than expected after finishing 13-27 last season.

Following Thursday’s loss, one name dominated social media chatter: fans are urging the Sky to bring back former fiery two-way guard Chennedy Carter, whom the team chose not to re-sign this offseason despite her being one of the top performers last year.

"The Chicago Sky are really missing Chennedy Carter’s explosive playmaking ability," Robert Griffin III posted. "She is what gave the Sky their Detroit Pistons “Bad Boys” mentality."

Many other fans also expressed their desire for Chicago to make a move to bring Carter back.

"Chicago Sky fumbled Chennedy Carter. She’s the girl version of Allen Iverson. They need offense," a fan said.

Another fan posted, "Chennedy carter had multiple 30+ pt games last season with above 58% fg but bc she’s a little messy she’s living it up in mexico instead of on my tv."

Someone else added, "Chicago Sky has to go get Chennedy Carter back. You can’t have a team w/no scorers. & having a more harmonious “locker room” is not a sports stat."

"It's not too late to go get Chennedy Carter..." One more fan commented

Chennedy Carter is currently playing for Adelitas de Chihuahua in Mexico’s women’s LNBP league. Last season with the Sky, she averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 48.7% from the field. At just 26 years old, she still has plenty of prime playing years ahead.
