The Chicago Sky started off the 2025 WNBA season on a four-game losing streak, but now, the team sits at 2-4 under new head coach Tyler Marsh. This makes them tied for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with the Indiana Fever.
When the two teams faced off on opening day, the Fever dismantled the Sky, winning by a final score of 93 to 58.
As the Fever open Cup play on Tuesday, however, they've been hit with the injury bug at the wrong time. Caitlin Clark is out at least another week, then on Sunday, the Fever lost Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham to injury.
This series of injuries has plagued the Fever, as they have now lost two straight games to the 3-4 Washington Mystics and 1-6 Connecticut Sun. By contrast, the Sky have won two straight games heading into the Cup, including a 94 to 83 road victory against the Dallas Wings on Saturday.
On Monday, WNBA.com writer Brian Martin released his Week 2 power rankings, and the Sky moved up from No. 13 to No. 11. Not only that, but they leapfrogged the Indiana Fever, as the Sky are fourth in the Eastern Conference and the Fever sit at fifth.
Martin specifically emphasized the news of Clark's injury as one driving force behind Indiana's slip.
"As the Fever open Cup play on Tuesday, they’ve been hit with the injury bug at the wrong time," he noted. "Caitlin Clark is out at least another week, then on Sunday, the Fever lost Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham to injury."

The Fever are certainly a different team without Clark, as they went 2-2 with her in the lineup. Their losses both came in the final seconds, as they were unable to get a clean look against the 5-2 Dream and 7-0 Liberty as time expired.
In the previous matchup between Chicago and Indiana, Clark, who made the 2024 First-Team All-WNBA, had a 20-point triple-double in the win. 2024 WNBA All-Star forward Angel Reese added 12 points and 17 rebounds for the Sky.
Chicago opens up its Cup schedule on June 7 when it hosts the Fever at Wintrust Arena for an 8:00 p.m. EST tipoff. Indiana plays on Tuesday against the Washington Mystics at 7:00 p.m. EST.
