Chicago Sky’s Stance on Firing Coach Tyler Marsh Emerges After WNBA Season

The Chicago Sky’s 2025 campaign was another disappointing one, even as Angel Reese delivered a standout second season. Reese broke multiple franchise records, earned her second All-Star selection, and led the league in rebounding average, but Chicago still finished 10-34, tied with the Dallas Wings for the worst record in the WNBA.

That followed a 13-27 finish in 2024 under then-head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, who was dismissed after just one season. The Sky turned to Tyler Marsh in November 2024, hiring the former assistant with championship experience in hopes of stabilizing the roster and building around Reese and the team’s younger pieces.

Given another season near the bottom of the standings, speculation quickly grew that the Sky would make a coaching change, with some fans believing the franchise might move on from Marsh after just one year in charge. However, according to a new report Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile, Chicago has no plans to replace him and are instead opting for continuity on the bench heading into 2026.

“The Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings are two franchises with records that often come with a change,” Costabile wrote. “According to multiple sources, neither franchise will pursue coaching staff changes ahead of 2026.”

Marsh’s first year came with significant challenges. Veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot was lost early in the season to a torn ACL. Angel Reese missed games with a back injury, while Ariel Atkins and rookie Hailey Van Lith also dealt with health setbacks that kept them off the court.

These injuries left the roster short-handed and undermined consistency all season long.

Angel Reese and Chicago Sky Not on Good Terms?

Meanwhile, tension between Reese and the organization drew headlines. She was briefly suspended for comments deemed critical of the franchise and its roster direction. Although she later apologized, questions about her long-term commitment to the Sky remain. Still, general manager Jeff Pagliocca emphasized that Reese is part of the team’s future.

While Marsh appears secure in his role, Reese’s future in Chicago is far less certain. The 23-year-old has voiced frustrations about mediocrity and has made it clear she wants to compete for championships. With her relationship with the front office still under scrutiny, the Sky will be under pressure this offseason to upgrade the roster and prove they can build a contender around their young star. How the franchise handles Reese’s concerns will be one of the most closely watched storylines in the WNBA heading into 2026.
