Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham are gearing up for their second WNBA season together with the Indiana Fever , opening the 2026 preseason with a matchup against Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty on Saturday. This comes after both Clark and Cunningham were forced to miss the entire 2025 playoffs due to season-ending injuries.
Clark only played in 13 games throughout the 2025 season, her second in Indiana, dealing with numerous issues throughout the season, including an ankle and groin injury. Still, the former Iowa guard was able to earn a second All-Star nod, averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game.
Cunningham, on the other hand, will be entering her second season with the Fever in 2026 after signing a one-year, $665,000 deal just a couple of weeks ago. In 2025, the former Phoenix Mercury guard proved to be a key piece for Indiana, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while also emerging as one of the team’s enforcers. But a torn MCL in late August ended Cunningham's season early
Despite the serious injuries in 2025, Clark and Cunningham have entered training camp fully recovered and are expected to play in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Liberty, as they were not listed on the Fever’s injury report. However, Indiana will not have its full roster, as forward Aliyah Boston (lower leg), guard Lexie Hull (hamstring), guard Ty Harris (knee) and forward Damiris Dantas (not with team) have been ruled out.
"Aliyah Boston (lower leg), Lexie Hull (hamstring), Ty Harris (knee) and Damiris Dantas (NWT) are all out for tomorrow’s preseason opener against New York," IndyStar's Chloe Peterson wrote on X. "Boston, Hull, and Harris have been participating in the portions of practice open to media so far this week."
