Liberty Make Big Announcement After Seventh Straight Win

The New York Liberty opened the WNBA Commissioner's Cup in style on Sunday. The defending champs had the honor of playing in the first game of the mid-season tournament, and they made sure to leave their mark by taking down the Connecticut Sun in dominant fashion.

This came in the form of a 100-52 blowout win for the Liberty as they flexed their collective muscle over a now 1-6 Connecticut side. With this massive victory, New York has not only won their first game in the Commissioner's Cup, but it's also improved to 7-0 on the season to tie its franchise record for the best start to a WNBA campaign.

On top of that, the Liberty were also able to make history on Sunday with their 48-point victory. The team announced on social media that this represents the largest margin in franchise history.

It was another concerted effort for the Liberty in this one, with four out of five starters scoring at least 13 points in the game. Sabrina Ionescu (game-high 18 points, five assists, four triples) and Breanna Stewart (13 points, five assists) did their thing, but it was former WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones who stood out with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double with three treys.

To say that the Liberty have been dominant in their title defense thus far would be an understatement at this point, especially after Sunday's demolition job of the Sun.

Up next for New York is a road game against the Washington Mystics on Thursday as the champs look to make it eight straight wins to start the season.
