Angel Reese is no longer just the “Bayou Barbie.”

The Chicago Sky star Reese christened herself with a new nickname in a post to her Instagram page over the weekend. Reese shared some assorted snapshots from the month of June and included her new moniker for herself in the post — “AR Point-5.”

Reese’s initials are “AR,” and she also wears the jersey number 5. As for the “Point,” that appears to be a reference to the increase in ball-handling duties that Reese has taken on recently.

Sky teammate Courtney Vandersloot, a seven-time WNBA assists leader, was lost for the season earlier this month due to a torn ACL suffered during a game. As such, Reese is now having to act as a primary playmaker for Chicago.

The 23-year-old All-Star Reese has performed well in those duties, averaging 5.0 assists per game over her last six contests. She has also put up 13.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game over that span as well.

Reese was rightfully criticized early in the season for some of her embarrassing sequences on the court. But she has done admirably in the month of June and recently even sent a message to her critics after posting a triple-double.

The problem for the Sky though is that they are still a lousy 4-11 on the year overall entering Sunday, which is fifth of six in the Eastern Conference. But they at least appear to be getting a meaningful contribution right now from “AR Point-5.”
