Sophie Cunningham wasn’t exactly an unfamiliar name when she joined the Indiana Fever as an offseason recruit. After all, this year is her 7th year in the WNBA. There’s no denying, however, that her popularity jumped significantly over the course of the season.

A testament to this fact is how Cunningham recently eclipsed 1 million followers on TikTok. This came shortly after she was ejected from the Connecticut Sun game on June 17 for allegedly retaliating on behalf of Caitlin Clark.

Cunningham has nothing but love for the Fever faithful, too. In fact, the veteran guard recently made a bold statement about how she firmly believes that Fever fans are unlike any other set of supporters in the entire league.

“I think we have the best fans in the whole W, and I know every team says that, but they’re lying because I’m telling the truth,” she said. “We have to protect our homecourt and when we can fire up these fans they’re feisty, they’re sassy, they’re kinda just like me.”

Fever fans have gotten to know Cunningham well throughout her first year in Indiana, and they know that she’s a no-nonsense type of player. The front office acquired her services as an enforcer of sorts, but she’s brought so much more to the table since she arrived.

Cunningham and Co. will need to wait until after the upcoming All-Star break before they get their next opportunity to defend their homecourt, though. Up next for Indiana is a tough back-to-back set against the Connecticut Sun and the defending champions, the New York Liberty, on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

They then get to battle the Liberty again in Brooklyn after the break on July 22, before finally returning home for a matchup against the Las Vegas Aces at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 24.
