It was a busy Tuesday in the WNBA. During her exit interview, Minnesota Lynx Star and players union president Napheesa Collier made some spicy comments about the WNBA’s leadership that sent shock waves around not only the league but around the sports world.
Before the Las Vegas Aces prepared to take on the Indiana Fever in their best-of-five series, the league’s MVP in Aces star A’ja Wilson was asked her thoughts regarding what Collier said earlier in the day.
Wilson said she didn’t really know or hadn’t heard what was said during a pregame interview with ESPNW analysts but she did say whatever Collier said, she meant every word of it.
Collier’s comments from today highlight a bigger problem with this blossoming league, pay inequality for players and inept officiating, especially in contentious playoff games.
Collier’s coach Cheryl Reeves has been fined $15,000 for her comments concerning faulty officiating along with Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon and Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White who agreed with Reeves’ point of view.
It will be interesting to hear from the league’s top players in the coming days before the WNBA Finals.
The WNBA Finals start Friday, October 3.
