  • AEW has surpassed WCW's Monday Nitro by airing their 289th episode of Dynamite tonight.
  • AEW has made the milestone a special "Spring BreakThru" event.
  • AEW founder Tony Khan, former champ MJF, and Eric Bischoff celebrated the milestone.

All Elite Wrestling came to be back in 2019 with their inaugural Double or Nothing event taking place on May 25th that year. The promotion would make several announcements around this time, including the creation of a weekly prime-time television show airing on TNT, the former broadcaster of World Championship Wrestling's Monday Nitro.

AEW Dynamite had its first episode air on October 2nd, 2019, and would stick with TNT until December 2021. The show was then moved to TNT's sister channel, TBS, in January 2022, where it still resides currently, alongside streaming on simulcast with Max. Tonight the show is celebrating a major milestone with the Spring BreakThru episode being held in the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dynamite Surpasses Monday Nitro

Tonight's Spring BreakThru episode of Dynamite will officially be the show's 289th episode, placing it ahead of WCW Monday Nitro, which aired for 288 episodes on TNT. Nitro had its first episode on September 4th, 1995, and would become the main rival to WWE's Monday Night Raw, airing at the same time slot.

Nitro continued until March 26th, 2001, when it was confirmed that WCW's trademarks and certain assets, such as the video library and many wrestlers' contracts, would be purchased by the WWE.

Reactions To This Milestone

Many people connected to this huge event have issued some words of celebration, such as AEW founder Tony Khan, former AEW World Champion MJF, and former Senior Vice President of WCW Eric Bischoff. Khan had many good words to say about WCW and Monday Nitro, pointing out the cruiserweights they brought into the mainstream of U.S. wrestling as well as the many exciting moments from the show.

MJF posted on social media how proud he is of AEW and how it wouldn't have been possible without him carrying the company. Bischoff said on his 83 Weeks Podcast,

"I want to congratulate Tony Khan and his entire staff. This obviously means a lot to them and congratulations. It does say a lot about Tony’s commitment. Tony put his own money into this. You can judge the product, I can judge the product, I often have. I just don’t watch it anymore, but truth is — his vision, his dream, his money, his commitment...So congratulations, because what he did isn’t easy — no matter how anybody feels about the product, it wasn’t easy and it still isn’t… it doesn’t bother me a bit, it just doesn’t mean anything to me while it does to Tony and company.”
