• El Grande Americano wins WWE Speed Champion title after defeating Dragon Lee in a hard-fought match.
  • Americano sticks to his luchador identity by keeping his real identity a mystery, creating fan speculation.
  • WWE is supporting El Grande Americano's character, and fans are celebrating his first singles title win.

El Grande Americano is the new WWE Speed Champion, and he got a heartfelt congratulations message from his close friend Chad Gable. Grande American claimed his first singles title in WWE after a hard-fought victory over Dragon Lee on May 7, 2025, and no one was happier for him than the leader of Alpha Academy.

El Grande Americano Going Strong In WWE

The masked luchador defeated Lee, ending the former champion's reign in a match that proved Americano isn't one to be overlooked and he's on a roll. Dragon Lee try to rip off Americano’s mask in a desperate bid to expose him. He was unsuccessful. As the referee intervened to warn Lee, El Grande Americano stuck a foreign object in his mask -- as he often does -- .and delivered a decisive diving headbutt to secure the win and capture the title.

While the masked wrestler has remained tight-lipped about who he really is, he took to messaging fans on his new social media account. He posted:

"I want to publicly thank the WWE Universe for the support they have given me on my journey to earn my FIRST WWE singles title! Even though I've been doing this for 40 years or more, I've been made to feel like this is all new to me. .let's celebrate!!"

Of course, many members of the WWE Universe will continue to suspect that El Grande Americano is none other than Chad Gable in disguise.

Gable took to social media shortly after the title change, posting, "Congrats, amigo!!!! You earned it!!!"

WWE Getting Behind El Grande Americano

What appeared to be a joke when he first appeared, El Grande Americano is showing he's anything but. He regularly wins matches on Raw, and he now holds his first WWE title. It's not clear if he'll bring that belt with him to television, as the title rarely, if ever, appears on regular programming. However, WWE might make an exception to push the character.

Congratulations to El Grande Americano. His transition from the world of Lucha Libre to the WWE has been nothing short of impressive. It's no wonder Gable is so proud of all he has accomplished during his short run with the company.
