Bray Wyatt brought several unforgettable characters to life during his WWE career, but one of his most iconic personas was ‘The Eater of Worlds.’ Debuting in 2013, the eerie cult-leader gimmick led to the creation of ‘The Wyatt Family’, featuring the late Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Braun Strowman.
It is safe to say that Wyatt played the role so convincingly that it reportedly caught the attention of one of history’s most notorious cult leaders, Charles Manson. Former WWE writer Nick Manfredini made a startling revelation during an appearance on Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Wrestling with Freddie podcast.
He explained that one of Wyatt’s former college football teammates, who worked as a prison guard in California, showed Wyatt’s promos to Manson. According to Manfredini, Manson became a fan and even expressed interest in meeting the WWE star.
Former WWE writer Nick Manfredini revealed that Charles Manson wanted to meet Bray Wyatt, idea was immediately squashed:

Moreover, Manfredini also shared that Wyatt’s father, Mike Rotunda, once pitched the idea of a WWE Network special featuring a meeting between Wyatt and Manson. However, Vince McMahon and Triple H quickly rejected the proposal.
In the same interview, Manfredini explained that Wyatt’s cult-leader character was heavily inspired by Manson and other infamous figures. He admitted that he even considered visiting Manson in prison with Wyatt for research, but later realized it would have been a terrible idea.
As Manson passed away from colon cancer in 2017, the meeting never happened. However, it is unclear if Wyatt himself, who tragically passed away just six years later in 2023, ever had any interest in meeting the infamous cult leader.
It is safe to say that Wyatt made the most with his initial run between 2013 and 2018, where he captured the WWE title and had memorable runs with John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and even a WrestleMania 31 encounter with The Undertaker.
Bray Wyatt passed away on 24th August 2023, after suffering a massive heart attack. The tragic loss of the multi-time WWE World Champion left a huge void in the wrestling world. Known for his creativity and intensity, Wyatt’s unforgettable portrayals– from ‘The Eater of Worlds’ to ‘The Fiend’ made him one of the most unique performers in WWE history.
Two years later, his impact is still deeply felt across the industry. As part of his retirement tour, John Cena recently paid tribute to Wyatt by performing his iconic finishing move, ‘The Sister Abigail’, on AJ Styles at Crown Jewel. The gesture was followed by another heartfelt tribute from The Hardy Boyz at NXT Halloween Havoc.
During the event, Jeff and Matt Hardy defended their NXT Tag Team Titles against Darkstate in a No Disqualification match. With the odds stacked against them, the entire Darkstate faction joined in, turning it into a de facto handicap match.
In a touching moment, Jeff Hardy honored Bray Wyatt by wearing face paint inspired by The Fiend. After the show, Matt Hardy took to social media to express gratitude and share their emotions.
Thank you for having our back tonight at @WWENXT #HalloweenHavoc, Arizona! You guys & gals were WONDERFUL! We’re so sorry we weren’t able to retain the #WWENXT Tag Titles. The State of Dark swarm was relentless & never-ending tonight. Our journey is nowhere near over, my & Brother Nero have SO much left to do. Very happy we could pay homage to Bray tonight – We love you & miss you, Windham.

Elsewhere at Halloween Havoc, Tatum Paxley defeated Jacy Jayne to become the new NXT Women’s Champion, while Blake Monroe captured her first title in WWE by defeating Zaria for the Women’s North American Championship. Through such tributes and the lasting influence of his work, it’s clear that Bray Wyatt’s WWE legacy remains firmly cemented in history.
