WWE Superstar Bronson Reed has recently spoken about his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Reed is currently embroiled in a feud with former WWE Champion Roman Reigns, and there is one former NJPW star that Reigns reminds Reed of.
While speaking on the latest episode of the “Battleground Podcast,” Reed brought up the time that he defeated Okada in a singles match and compared him to Reigns. This was when he went under the ring name JONAH. He went to NJPW after his first WWE release in September 2021. The match happened on August 7, 2022, at NJPW G1 Climax 32. Now, Okada is with AEW, and Reed is back with WWE. He said:
“I remember when I did get released from NXT, I was like, ‘well, I’m just going to go out there and prove myself again and make sure that they know they made the wrong decision.’ I made sure that I knew I was going to get to Japan, but I didn’t know that I was going to have the matches I was going to have, and then how everything worked, and I got to work with, obviously, Okada, who at the time was unbeatable in Japan. You could say he was the Roman Reigns of New Japan at the time, for sure, and to beat him in the G1 and do what I did, I think it put a lot of eyes back on me.” (h/t: WrestlePurists)
Reigns like Okada have had their unbeatable streak and were the big stars of their companies. Reed isn’t wrong to compare them, especially peak Okada in NJPW. That would have been a match to see the OTC Vs. Okada.
This upcoming Saturday, October 11, Reed is going to be facing Reigns in an Australian Street Fight match at Crown Jewel: Perth. The two have been feuding for some time now. For some reason, Reed has been obsessed with stealing Reigns’ shoes.
Before Reigns made his return on the September 28 episode of WWE RAW , he had been gone since he was viciously attacked by Reed after their match at Clash in Paris. Reigns defeated him, but came out of the event on a stretcher. Reed is currently in the stable, The Vision, with WWE Heavyweight World Champion Seth Rollins, WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, Paul Heyman, and Bron Breakker.
Other matches set for Crown Jewel include the men's and women’s Crown Jewel Championship matches, Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY versus the Kabuki Warriors, and John Cena will be facing AJ Styles.
