Damian Priest has explained the origin of his and Rhea Ripley's 'Terror Twins' nickname while discussing their bond.
The original Judgment Day members' careers were propelled into superstardom during and after their time in the stable. Priest became a World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania XL while Ripley became the joint-longest reigning Women's World Champion.
Priest and Ripley grew close, particularly after splitting from the group and teaming up to take down the villainous Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan. Their transformation into two of WWE's top babyfaces led to them being known as 'the Terror Twins'.
The 42-year-old spoke with the MLB Network Podcast ahead of SummerSlam this weekend, and he was asked about his friendship with Ripley. He praised her work ethic and connection with her fans:
"Just that positivity and the work ethic. You see that, you respect it, and then it's like, how can I not try to be the same? Her kindness, not just to us but to the fans, and she is one of the kindest people fans will ever meet. She is a sweetheart."
Priest and Ripley officially became known as the Terror Twins when they teamed together, and that was thanks to their fans:
"The Terror Twins name and gimmick came from the fans. The fans started calling us that because they would take screenshots of us and we would keep doing the same thing, the same facial expressions, and acting similarly, by accident, because we were around each other so much. Fans started calling us that and WWE liked it and ran with it and went all in with the Terror Twins."
The Terror Twins went their separate ways in January after Priest was traded from RAW to SmackDown as part of WWE's Transfer Window. But they have remained at the top of the card on their respective brands, especially Ripley, who, as well as Iyo Sky, is challenging Naomi for the Women's World Championship in a triple threat match at SummerSlam on Sunday (August 3).
Ripley and Priest were both part of WWE's developmental brand NXT before moving up to the main roster and becoming two of the original members of The Judgment Day, formed by WWE Hall of Famer Edge . The Rated R Superstar was ousted from the group and replaced by Finn Balor, and this iteration of the stable helped the pair reach megastar level.
Their friendship was on display throughout the faction's highs and lows, especially when Priest cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania XL to become world champion. A year later, they'd go their separate ways, and Ripley penned her Terror Twin a heartfelt message on X:
"From being strangers, to you becoming my best friend. Always being on the same brands from day one. Being inseparable travel and gym buddies. You have always been one my my biggest supporters. I don’t want to let you go… But I cannot wait to see the punishing you get up to. Te amo, my Terror Twin!"
Priest and Ripley continue to support each other despite now competing on different brands, and the Archer of Infamy will no doubt be in her corner on Sunday. It was this time last year that both were betrayed by Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor at SummerSlam 2024 to ignite The Judgment Day's implosion.
