At Evolve: Succession, which aired on October 15, 2025, a major title change happened. Evolve Women’s Champion Kali Armstrong defended her title against Kendal Grey. In a long and hard-fought battle, Grey beat Armstrong, ending her reign at 151 days. It was a long time coming for her. She had been showing how talented she was on NXT, Level Up, and Evolve.

Now that she’s champion, she will be able to get more opportunities on both NXT and Evolve. Luckily, a big opportunity came rather quickly. On the October 28, 2025, episode of NXT, she got her first match as Evolve Women’s Champion against Lash Legend. Was she able to beat a scrappy veteran like Legend in her first retention?

Grey Takes Down Legend in Statement Victory

Since late 2021, Legend has been doing great things in NXT. She was notably a part of the faction Meta Four. Her tag team skills were also on display while she was with Jakara Jackson. However, things have changed a lot in the past couple of months. Meta Four is no longer a group. Jackson and Oro Mensah were released, and Noam Dar has been out with an injury. Legend is truly on her own now. But it hasn’t all been sadness for her.

At Evolution, a battle royal was held for a future Women’s World Championship title match. Legend and Stephanie Vaquer were the final two competitors, but Vaquer ended up winning. That strong showing proved she could wrestle with some of the best women on the main roster.

Was she going to make the match against Grey an easy win and take the Evolve Women’s Championship for herself, or would Grey shock everyone with a retention against a strong competitor? The match was a good one, with Legend showing her athleticism and Grey showing why she’s a champion. Both women were even until Legend made a crucial mistake. She lifted Grey up onto her shoulders and threw her against the rope. Bouncing off, Grey went into the corner where she attempted to kick her.

Grey moved out of the way, allowing her to hit Shades of Grey when Legend turned around. She applied the pinfall and got the count for the successful title retention. It was an impressive match with an experienced veteran in the ring. Legend fought so hard for the victory, but she got outsmarted in the end. Grey should be proud of herself. She retained the Evolve Women’s Championship not only on NXT, but against a mainstay in the women’s division. The rest of the division definitely are on notice now, with more opportunities surely coming due to her performance.
