Dawks08 Safety Rankings: Dawks or Reed?

I'm a Eagles fan but I'm not sure how you can put Dawks and Q in the top 5. I guess just a little Eagles bias LOL. But due to the fact that Dawk was injured most of lst year and him and Q haven't played an entire season together, starting, then I can't put them at the top until I see them together for a good number of games playing well. Roy Williams and Ken Hamlin? The safeties were the worst part of Dallas' defense. And with all the talk about Roy this offseason not playing good in coverage, he definitely shouldn't be on this list. Dawk is great, but not the greatest of all time. I would put him in the top 5.

agreed with what you said- dallas had few weak points in them last year, and roy williams was one of them. Love dawkins, and could put him alone in a top 5 safeties of today, but don't know if Q compliments him or puts him on this chart. I do think Q can be great, and has played well till now, just can't put him on this list.

Dawkins is an easy 2st ballot HOF but he cannot be compared to Ed Reed because they play two completely different styles. Dawkins hits hard, stops the run extremely well, and brings a sort of spiritual boost to the team. Reed plays the pass much better than the run, does special teams, and plays in a different system.

no im saying if you were to start a team building starting with secondary who would you rather have? then its unanimous and yea it is eagles bias but i beleive that Q has the potential to do amazing, Dawks hasnt ever spoken so highly of another safety not even michael lewis and that says something, but id also like to make the case that being a safety its always important to have a solid front 7, well with Ray Terrell and the rest of Baltimores LB corps how hard would it be NOT to grab a couple ints i mean reed obviously has a better supporting cast this season will be different i can tell teams will run on us a whole lot more i guarantee that but well still make plays as always

the answer is neither dawkins or reed. the answere is sanders. he is the best saftey in the game and you can tell by the affect he has on his team. The colts had the worst statistical run defense in the nfl and when the eraser came back, he transformed the colts into to the number 1 statistical defense in the playoff. my opinion is not bias, i am not colts fan. He is just th e best and does not get the credit he deserves.

had brian dawkins ever been the defense player of the year? i dont think so...bob sanders has. and when bob and his team got to the super bowl, he delivered...and so did ed but dawkins....not so much

Everybody knows Brian Dawkins. He is easily the most recognizable Safety in the NFL. That's what makes him better, his passion for the game, his fan base, the respect everyone in the NFL has for him, Bob Sanders is very good but he doesn't have that presence Dawkins has or the same amount respect given to him, and he won't make the hall of fame, Dawkins is in the top five all-time for Safeties in the NFL stats-wise, and has some ridiculous records. He will be first ballot Hall of Fame.

It's Ed Reed.

Its so Ed Reed. Not really fair to penalize a guy because his organization's got a great eye for talent and figured out how to get the most bang for their buck and put together an all-around solid defense and crown another guy because his organization's defense uhm well blows quite frankly at least at the time they did. However, no one can argue with the point that Sanders may have altered Mannings destination for the Lifetime Losers Lounge for Legends by returning to the field for the playoffs 07. Whose better I say pound for pound man 2 man its Reed. But I guess it all depends on the means by which you do the measuring. If its talent, physicality, consistency its Reed but if the # of championships is the stick we're using to size up players which it commonly. is then 07 puts Sanders not to mention Polomalu in 06 ahead of both Dawkins and Reed right. But if i'm starting from scratch and i get to choose my dream safety tandem i am going to have to do the unfathumable and painfully and just this one time align myself with the patriots via Belichick and go with Reed and another warm body pretty much and Im a Colts fan

Dawk is a HOF safety and has had the better career overall. but today? you can't say Dawk is better then Reed.

Last year, i was starting to worry about the Sean Taylor and Laron Landry combo that we'd have to face twice a year for the next 10 years. Now I;m said i'll never get 2 see it in action.

I might be a bit biased being a colts fan, but I am thinking Bethea and Sanders should be a top of this list based on recent stats but unless you are basing th is off of something else.

the reason he doesn't get enough credit is cause he plays for the eagles!!!! i bet if you ask anyone playing the game or against dawk in the past they would say ; he's the best if not one of the best!!! he's only missing a ring!!!

Dawkins is tops in my book regardless of injuries an whatever it maybe but I could See in about 2-4 yrs Quintin Demps an Quintin Mikell as top 15 Safetys they are young and look promising i know we havent seen Demps yet but Something about him Reminds Me Of Dawkins and Someone Else That Was a Dangerous Safety of the Past but i cant pinpoint who.... I personally think Demps is Underrated and Safety Phillips the one that was drafted this yr is Overrated because He doesnt look Elusive an a powerhouse like Demps will be and Dawkins is he phillips seems like a CB type of Player more or less a S or a SS not a FS

okay this article isnt biased or anything. How can you say we have a top 5 saftey tandem. Dawkins is the 2nd best saftey now with bob sanders at no 1 now. He is getting old. Any saftey tandem with quentin mikell isnt a top 5 tandem. Hes solid but nothing special. A lot of you people always think positive about everything eagles but you have to look at it realisticly. I think Atari Bigby and Nick Collins should at least be on the list.

how can you say look at it realistically, than in your next breath talk about their rank in a video game.

The Dallas Safeties can not be on this list, they are terrible, and not having Landry and Reed on this list is an insult to football. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you should disrespect them. I personally think Dawkins is a better player, but Reed is up there and him and Landry should be in the top 3.
