PLAYERS: John Madden

News broke on Monday that after three years, Tony Kornheiser will step down from his spot in the Monday Night Football booth due to his fear of flying.

He'll be replaced by, of all people, Jon Gruden. Chucky joins Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski to give us one of the most interesting booths of all time.

It'll be an interesting change to have a former NFL quarterback, a very-recently-turned former NFL head coach, and one of the better play-by-play guys in Mike Tirico all working together. The most interesting interchanges should be between Jaworski and Gruden, especially given their personalities...

  • See ya Tony, don't let the door hit you in the @ss on the way out.
  • I love Kornheiser on PTI but MNF was wrong for him from the git go. He seemed like a fish out of water sitting there with the other two, didn't know what to do with or where to put his microphone ...I felt sorry for him. I am, therefore, relieved this interlude has come to an end. Good night, CANADA is the better gig for Tony.

Gruden Taking Over for Kornheiser on Monday Night Football

For the second time this offseason, a player in the prime-time network scene is leaving the broadcast booth. Tony Kornheiser is leaving ESPN’s Monday Night Football over a fear of flying. Steelers-Ravens the Best NFL Rivalry?

Vinnie Iyer of SportingNews.com has put out his list of the 10 best rivalries in football, and he has the Steelers-Ravens at the top of his list. Here’s what he has to say about these two foes: 1. Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers In retirement, John Madden didn’t leave us with enough onomatopoeia to describe [...]

Tony Kornheiser will be replaced by Jon Gruden in MNF booth

I am one of the few people that didn't mind Tony Kornheiser as a broadcaster in the Monday Night Football booth. In fact, I like him a lot more than Ron Jaworski, but to each his own. Kornheiser has decided to step down from his announcing gig because he suffers from the same phobia as John Madden, although not nearly as bad. TK doesn't like to fly either. Gruden will...

Fox Sports Demotes Lead NFL Director, Splits Legendary Team

As reported here last week, there is some upheaval going on on the production side of the NFL on Fox. Now it is time for some more, but not all, details (as they are not yet available).David Hill, Fox Sports Chair and Executive Producer, has demoted lead NFL director Artie Kempner. Even more stunning for me is that Hill has also split the legendary producer/director team of Bob Stenner...

Michael Irvin Back In The Spotlight

Here are a few NFL/Broncos links that I thought might be of interest: - John Madden isn’t the only NFL broadcaster that’s afraid to fly. Tony Kornheiser is reportedly leaving ESPN’s Monday Night Football both because of a fear of flying. His replacement: Jon Gruden. - Michael Irvin is a busy man. Not only did he raise money for the Cowboys assistant that was paralyzed...

ESPN Sunday Night Baseball; Thumbs Down

I have been quiet lately with regard to my New York Mets. My last articles talked about the rivalry with the Phillies and prior to that looking at the pitching staff after 10 games. I'm not one who wants to write about re-caps simply because I watch every game and frankly when they lose I don't need any reminders.I'm going to LA Tuesday and will watch the Mets and the...
