Phildaelphia Eagles: Donovan McNabb Having Fun Again

Philadelphia Eagles fans are obsessed with obtaining a No. 1 wideout, feeling that Donovan McNabb has underachieved since the T.O. debacle.

During that 2004 season, McNabb had a passer rating of 104.7 while throwing for 3,875 yards, 31 TDs, only 8 interceptions, and running for another 220 yards and 3 TDs. It is true that since then he has failed to even approach those numbers, yet it might not have as much to do with his receivers as everyone thinks.

Since the Super Bowl, McNabb has faced injuries and controversies circulating around his future in Philadelphia. However, with the quarterback of the future already on the roster, McNabb no longer has to wonder if he will remain and rather how long. He is now motivated to secure his future contract, no matter which team gives it to him.

McNabb knows he must prove that he still has the durability, flair, talent and speed that was so prevalent early on in his career. It seems that McNabb is taking a very lighthearted approach to it all though, and that could translate into a huge year on the field. McNabb has consistently played at high level when he is happy, and it would once again appear that he is content.

More than 18 months removed from his ACL tear, McNabb is poised to have a huge breakout year and hopefully keep the Eagles playing deep into January. Maybe they will even earn a trip to Tampa.

MCNABB ROCKS!!! you have to admit after day in & day out, of reading about the #1 WR coming to philly, usually the same names over & over again..........MAYBE it is, what it is & Donovan is happy, healthy & ready to kick some a$$. u can thumb it down, u can slash it to pieces but no matter which way u do it.........mcnabb is the man!!! respect that ya dig? ;0 !!!

McNabb is poised to have a huge breakout year...

It's good to see that Donovan is back to being, well Donovan. Not to say that he wasn't himself that past couple of offseasons, but the past couple offseasons weren't the normal for him. Between rehabbing the sports hernia, the ACL, constant trade rumors, it takes a toll mentally and physically. I think he's going to go into this season and have a great year and hopefully come out of the season with a new contract to be the QB of the Eagles for the rest of his career.

NICE, DF !!! i 110% agree!!

Donavan McNabb is top 3 QB is professional football, end of story. Manning and Brady is all I will put in front of him. The ONLY time in his career where he had a legit recieving core was with T.O. and he put up record setting numbers. So for the 90% of his career he has played with below avg receivers and has put up incredible numbers, my favorite of which is lowest int/td ratio. Only Neil O'Donnell's are better. Don is a consumate professional, always trying to hone his craft, and make people around him better (see his offseason workouts in Arizona). He has had some injuries, but not the kind that stay with (ala bad ankles, back, shoulder, etc). HE can still run when necessary, and his balls have lost zero velocity. He can and will play another 7 years in this league. If the Eagles think they can do better with Kolb or anyone besides Manning or Brady, check the odds. Keee building around this man, and get him a top flight wr no matter what the cost.

I think until we actually win a Superbowl philly fans are going to be critical of McNabb. Sure, he's one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and has had some durability issues. But we still find ways to throw him under the bus when our team isn't living up to expectations (remember the GREAT Bobby Hoying? Yeah..thought that would make you appreciate what we have in McNabb). We should all be a little more appreciative and thank the football gods that we aren't guessing who are starting QB is, or if he's any "good". Randall Cunningham is still my all time favorite Eagle, but McNabb will surely be a close second if he gets us that ring. I honestly hope he does and that our team silences all the critics. I had a feeling back in 1991 that we were going to win the Superbowl (then Randall got hurt ARRGHHH!). I haven't had the feeling until recently. I honestly think this is OUR YEAR and I hope that I'm finally right.

*sigh* true, very true latin!!!

I think last year he looked very frustrated. It was very unlike him the way his passes were not completing or were being dropped. Hopefully since he knows his job is not threatened, and he is supported in Philly that he will perform better this year. Plus, they fixed some key issues that probably had made him less confident with the offensive structure last year. I like the Eagles, I hope they improve their standing, and HOPEFULLY the philly fans wont be booing McNabb like they did last year.

amen pink!!!! nicely put & always appreciated!!!!

another steeltown fan chimin in here mcnabb is just a 1st class guy ya can't beat his great attitude that says alot after all he's been through

i agree he has struggled with injury but every great qb deserves a solid cast a threat to give him options peyton manning has them brady has them and favre was well noted on his call for such playmakers so although i agree hes a great qb either way if we want him to do better his supporting cast has to get better

nice one ck

nice post ck!! A happy mcnabb could lead to happy fans. Can you say super bowl!

I think Donovan will do well this year, It's always a good sign when your QB is feeling good about playing the game :)
Favre didn't always have the best seasons...there were a couple years that it was extremely annoying to watch anything on tv, because all they did was bash him. Then does awesome, breaks a ton of records. and all of a sudden he's great again. lol
As a fan, you take the good with the bad. Hope he shows them up, CK! :)

look at how many ppl. dig donovan!!! thank u so much ms. lisa & EVERYONE for your input, i hope he reads these blogs here in the yard that are positive about him , this just made my morning!!!!!!!

We need to give the man credit where due. Carson Palmer testified that it takes a year to come back from a torn ACL injury, where you feel 95% at best. A scenario where it feels you are never quite the full capacity you were previous to the injury. This situation is busted from the fact that he started scrambling towards the end of the season; Despite the past two injuries being the torn ACL of most recent and Athletic Pubalgia/Sports Hernia; Where excessive pain can be located from the testicular rang to the groin.

He is a surprising athlete, showing a lot of conviction playing with BOTH of those injuries. It never has ultimately been about the WR. Statistically he is the best QB that Philadelphia has historically, had. If anyone puts the Eagles in the position to win, Donovan is that individual; And he simply has a great work ethic, love, and candor to life as well as the game.

When Donovan plays the game because he enjoys it, he pays no attention to injury, and plays the game with his body, heart and soul. The reason why all players should be out there. His tenacity is not only respected, but admired.

Cool write-up.

NICE!!!! feedback puma!!!!

that man when he's happy means good things for us this season

its nice to see that some philly fans atually know what is gong on. i live in boston and travel to philly once a year for a game. i truly cannot stand the eagle fans who boo mcnabb and reid. they piss me off more than cowboys and giants fans. ar and dm have done more for our franchise than anyone and no one there seems to appreciate it. i cant wait for them to prove all the critics wrong. go birds!!!!
