Who are the Real Stars?

As I sit at home, just two weeks before my 10th training camp, I remember my first training camp with the Ravens. We had about 13 D-Lineman in camp and I wasn't even on the 3rd team. I had to fight and claw for every play. I remember having to always work harder just to get noticed by my coaches. After all I was a free agent from Howard University. So I understand the long days on the playing fields, and being cut 3 times, but I am tired of being overlooked and the fans being mislead. Football is more than just the 30 second highlight given on Sunday afternoon. Look at the game that happens between the " white lines". I would like to challenge the fans not only to cheer for the stars, but to look hard and see who are the "real players" on your favorite teams. The NFL, for the most part is a League driven by so called stars, but for every star, there are players who give their all on Sunday's, who's efforts are forgotten. I write and bring these issues up because there are others that feel the same, that others are being somewhat mislead. Mislead to think that their teams are only about 3 or 4 players, and they fail to realize that the team has 53 members. Unlike Tennis, Golf, or Track it takes a team to win a football game. But Fans and the Media are constantly being told it's all about the individual. The sport I love and the game you love will never be about, "one". I am excited about my new team and challenges, but at the same time I am also excited about educating the fans to learn more about their teams, and lend a handshake to all, who bare your favorite colors on Sunday.

Nice write up Marques.....totally agree with you

I appreciate your insight to this issue. I think it relates to why we should revise salary cap regulations.

Your right, I'll be watching the game, and all my friends do is talk about Westbrook. They don't know anyone else on the team, it's annoying.

Look at all the guys on the roster and know who can help your team, in the fall

Marques - always great to read your entries. Who on the Baltimore Ravens would you say was most overlooked, even by a diehard fan who tries to watch everything that goes on?

I would look closely at Kelly Greg and others along the line who constantly provide solid play on Sunday's

Kelley Gregg is definitely one of my favorite Ravens. I wish he never had to retire, but I accept that it's coming soon.

Great Post. Its hard to understand the grind that football endear and just how much it is a team effort. Think about the other major sports. The amount of practice compared to games is nothing like what NFL players endure a team. The team collectively endears 5-6 days of laborious practice every week in hopes of improving their execution and cohesiveness. However come Sunday, the media seems to only pay attention to a select few.

Hey Marques, That really was a fantastic read man. Shame on all of us for doing this because we all have. It seems we never scream the name of the lead blocker that opened the hole so the famous running back can power another one in the end zone. There really should be a moment of reflection before the pats on the backs are handed out. Thanks for the enlightenment. Peace to you.

You should read this alloud during the pregame show, first game of the season. I think we all get caught up in the 'highlight reels' but we wouldn't even have those plays unless the work horses were holding it down. Thanks for making me think! Have a great season....just don't beat my team! Haha.

Hey Marques,
Great point and its true (ex. if your jersey aint sellin then your name won't be the one they yellin'!" Marques you had a heck of a season with us here in SF, although not visible in the stat box, it was truly visible on the field! Your play here in SF will be missed! All 3 sacks and then some!

you only get to appreciate football if you play on the line i mean being a receiver and corner for most of my life when i was a fresh they tried me at tackle (switched to FB) and i hated it but it makes u wonder i mean nex yea when i strap on my receiver gloves ill point to the line after my first TD goota give love to the big men

Great Point totally agree with you. The greastest running back and QB would be nothing without other players.

I hope you have your passport. It might come in handy one day.
