Stanford did a few impossible things last weekend: They stopped Oregon’s offense. They won at Autzen Stadium. They won at Autzen Stadium WITH A FRESHMAN QB MAKING HIS FIRST ROAD START. Shocking result, but of course very welcome around these Purple parts. (Note: Purple parts.)
UCLA beat USC for the first time since 2006, confirming Jim Mora as a bona fide savior in Westwood. Oregon State thrashed Jeff Tedford right out of a job. Arizona ended Utah’s hopes of bowl eligibility. Miss the Mountain West yet, Utes? ASU obliterated Mike Leach, who isn’t even trying anymore. Washington kept their winning streak going, handling Colorado by 35.
Should UCLA tank this week’s game against Stanford in order to secure Stanford as the Bruins’ Pac-12 Championship Game opponent, rather than Oregon? Can Colorado find a second win against Utah? Any chance for the Beavs against the wounded Duckaroos?
All that and I reveal that I’m wary of the Cougs this week. The last thing I want is to saunter junk-first into the Nuts Kickin’ Saloon.
