The Guru Contributing Writer Three Red Sox players will be making the trip to Citi Field in New York July 16 for the annual All-Star game. David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Clay Buchholz will all be part of the festivities. There is still hope that one more Red Sox player could be added to the team. Red Sox reliever Koji Uehara was selected as one of five candidates for the final spot on the AL roster. The winner will be determined by on-line fan voting. Going up against Uehara for the final spot on the AL squad are relief pitchers Joaquin Benoit, Steve Delabar, David Robertson and Tanner Scheppers. The 38-year-old Uehara has never been selected to an All-Star game. “If I get actually chosen, [I'll] probably explode with excitement,” Uehara said through an interpreter. “I didn’t think I was in a position to be chosen this year for the All-Star team. I don’t know what to feel.'' Uehara has appeared in 39 games for the Red Sox and is 2-0 with five saves, a 1.95 ERA and...

Uehara Running In Second Place In ASG Voting

Koji Headed To Flushing?Online fan voting has placed Red Sox reliever Koji Uehara in second place for the final All-Star roster spot. Blue Jays reliever Steve Delabar leads the voting, followed by David Robertson of the Evil Ones, Joaquin Benoit of the Tigers and Tanner Scheppers of the Rangers. Uehara—despite blowing a save in Saturday's disaster in Anaheim—has had a stellar...

Koji Uehara Deserves to Win All-Star Game Final Vote, As His Importance to Red Sox Can’t Be Overstated

Koji Uehara’s All-Star candidacy took a hit Saturday. But there’s still no reason why he shouldn’t be dishing out high fives when MLB.com’s Final Vote concludes Thursday. Uehara not only has history on his side, but he’s also the American League Final Vote finalist who most deserves to be an All-Star, regardless of Saturday’s blown save against the Angels. AL All-Star...

Your Morning Dump... Where David Ortiz is immortal

Photo: sportsblog.projo.com Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Imagine punching into work at 3:30 p.m., punching out at 3:31, and in between earning an Employee of the Month award. Now you know what it felt like to be David Ortiz last...

David Ortiz: Ultimate DH

Unsurprisingly, David Ortiz is currently the leading vote-getter for the designated hitter position for the 2013 All-Star Game. Ortiz has played in every All-Star Game since 2004 (winning the Home Run Derby in 2010), with the exception of 2009 when he didn’t hit his first home run of the season until May 22nd – he managed to hit 28 homers that season, but most of them came in...

Koji Uehara, Yasiel Puig Among Finalists in MLB.com’s 2013 All-Star Game Final Vote

The Red Sox already have three All-Star representatives. There’s a chance that they could add a fourth. Reliever Koji Uehara is one of five American League finalists for this year’s MLB.com Final Vote. Fans have until Thursday, July 11, at 4 p.m. ET to vote for which player — from the list of finalists — they think should be the 34th and final player on each league’s All...

Angels 9, Red Sox 7(11)

Koji Uehara entered Saturday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels hoping he'd get one more chance to make the AL All-Star team because of the last-chance fan ballot. He might want to rethink his plans for the break. Uehara was brought in by manager John Farrell with two out in the ninth inning after the Angels loaded the bases against Alex Wilson. The Red Sox were...

Papi In The Pinch; Red Sox Beat Halos, 6-2

(Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)David Ortiz came off the bench in the 8th inning last night and extended Boston's lead from one to three runs with one swing, helping beat the Angels, 6-2. The two-run shot was the fifth pinch-hit HR of the DH's career (the first with Boston was also against the Angels in 2003). Felix Doubront had yet another good start—albeit with some rough...

Squanderpalooza Results In Stunning Loss, 9-7

(Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)Everyone will focus on the bullpen meltdown in analyzing Boston's most devastating loss of the season, 9-7 in 11 innings last night. With two outs in the ninth, Alex Wilson and Koji Uehara could not protect a four-run lead. That said, it was the countless missed scoring opportunities early in the game that should have turned this into a laugher for...

Ortiz: What Puig is doing is 'incredible'

Ortiz, Napoli homers pace Sox

The Guru Contributing Writer David Ortiz had a pinch-hit two-run homer and Mike Napoli hit his first since early June to help the Boston Red Sox down the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 early Saturday morning. You gotta love that 1:23 a.m. dirty water. Shane Victorino scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when Jonny Gomes hit a two out high fly ball to $125 million dollar man...

Sox could not care less about All-Star 'snubs'

While you'd think a team with the most wins in baseball would be chock full of All-Stars, only three Red Sox were named to this year's AL All-Star Team: David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Clay Buchholz.   To hear the players and managers talk about it, the lack of representation from the squad doesn't seem to matter.   From the Herald: “Do I want to be an All-Star? Of...

Bosox complete best homestand since 2010

With an 8-2 win over the Padres on Thursday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox wrapped up their nine game homestand with an 8-1 record and notched their fourth-straight victory in front of the largest crowd that Fenway Park has seen all season. Boston starter Allen Webster

Game 89: Red Sox at Angels - Getting it done in the Big A

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer Sources close to the Red Sox have informed me that 7:52 pm EDT (4:52 LA time) Mike Napoli’s ninth-inning home run Friday night finally landed. And David Ortiz was still pimpin’ his. Ah, yes. These are your Boston Red Sox. The best team in the American League and having the most fun you’ve seen in several years.
