Position: Center (Right-handed) Age at the start of the season: 34 (Birthday: June 5th, 1980) 2013-2014 Statistics: 75 games played – 20 goals, 29 assists, -4, 60 PIM 2013-2014 Possession Statistic Highlights: While he was arguably Nashville’s top center statistically last season, Fisher stayed in the middle of the pack with his possession numbers (both Corsi and Fenwick) in terms of centers for the Predators Fisher was also the most multi-purpose center in terms of deployment for Nashville, earning a 50% zone start percentage across the entire season Of all of Nashville’s centers, Fisher faced the toughest competition from the opposing team. 2013-2014 Recap: Statistically, last year for Fisher was his second-best year with Nashville and third-best year overall. While the year continued on, Fisher received more and more of Nashville’s top center minutes, allowing the Predators to work in players like Calle Jarnkrok and Colton Sissions in the lower lines. With Nashville’s system changing a bit this season, there is no question that Fisher was and continued to be the prototypical center that Barry Trotz had always wanted long-term in his tenure with the team. 2014-2015 Outlook: It’s hard to say how this season will go for Fisher. News broke in the early weeks of July that Fisher had ruptured his Achilles tendon and would be out four to six months to recover from the injury. At 34, an Achilles rupture is a tough thing to recover from in any type of contact sport, especially one that relies on the heavy use of your feet like ice hockey. If he can recover from the injury during the course of the season, it’ll be interesting to see where he slots in Nashville’s lineup, especially amongst the current slew of centers on the team. If the team is gelling and performing well when he returns, does Laviolette push a center to the wing to make room for Fisher? Like I said, there are a lot of questions here regarding Fisher. As his status changes, it may make things clearer. Best moment from last season: Let’s go back to December 28th, 2013 against the Los Angeles Kings. Fisher grabs a goal with 3:18 left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie and seemingly send the Predators home with a 2-1 lead. However, Nashville gave up a game-tying goal with just about 37 seconds remaining in the game. Then, just 10 seconds later, Fisher works himself around Mike Richards and pops the puck behind Scrivens and into the net for a thrilling 3-2 win for the Predators: — Photo Credit: Sarah Fuqua The post 2014-2015 Player Preview: Mike Fisher appeared first on The Predatorial.
