BUFFALO, NY - MARCH 3: Head coach Lindy Ruff of the Buffalo Sabres looks on during the game against the Washington Capitals at HSBC Arena on March 3, 2010 in Buffalo, New York. (Photo by Rick Stewart/Getty Images)
This past week of hockey featured a man not named Lindy Ruff behind the Buffalo Sabres bench, the Blackhawks staying undefeated in regulation this season, Cam Ward trying his best to recreate Rob Davison's 197 foot goal on Vesa Toskala, and perhaps one of the biggest blown calls in NHL history on Matt Duchene's crazy offside goal.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After 16 years as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres, Lindy Ruff has been fired. Ruff was the longest tenured coach in the NHL. Under Ruff, the Sabres made it to the Conference Finals four times, but never won the Stanley Cup. They missed the playoffs last season after are 6-11-1 to start this season. Since Ruff was hired in 1997, 170 coaches have been fired from other franchises in the NHL.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Vesa Toskala was in disguise as Cam Ward in this ridiculous center ice goal by Max Pacioretty.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Chicago Blackhawks are still undefeated in regulation with a 16-0-3 record. In fact, they even set the NHL record for best start to a season yesterday after their win over the Sharks.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This has to be one of biggest blown calls in NHL history. With 16:42 left in the second period and the Avalanche up 2-1, Matt Duchene scored a goal on a play he was clearly offside to give Colorado a 3-1 lead over the Nashville Predators. Video here. The Avs ended up winning the game 6-5, meaning that this goal was the deciding factor.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Also, check out this great channel I found on Youtube for some of the best hockey montages!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Related:2/15/13 - NHL Weekly Recap - Alfredsson is god, Karlsson out for season, Rick Nash's amazing assist, ref fights player
