For the second time in three weeks, hitting Kevin Boss has proven costly.
The NFL announced today that it has slapped Chargers safety Eric Weddle with a $7,500 fine for an ugly, helmet-to-helmet hit on the Giants tight end - - ugly, but still not hard enough to separate Boss from the ball as he held on for a 9-yard catch. It was the same fine the league handed down to Cardinals safety Antrell Rolle two weeks ago for a similar hit (with a similar result).
Boss has insisted he did not suffer a concussion on either play. Both times he held on to the ball and returned to the game a few plays later.
Three Giants were also fined for actions in the Giants’ 21-20 loss to the Chargers on Sunday:
• RB Ahmad Bradshaw was fined $5,000 for a personal foul/chop block in the second quarter.
• CB Kevin Dockery was fined $5,000 for “unnecessarily striking his opponent’ when he ran into the Chargers’ punt returner trying to make a fair catch.
