Boston's bullpen had something to prove. Down 5-3 headed into the top of the ninth, Kevin Youkilis hit a two-run homer and Rocco Baldelli notched a pinch hit game-tying two-run single. Julio Lugo drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning on an RBI single and the Red Sox pen did the rest. The bullpen pitched four scoreless innings retiring all 12 batters in a row. Daniel Bard pitched two innings with four strikeouts and Ramon Ramirez pitched the 10th inning. Jonathan Papelbon closed the door in the ninth for his 20th save of the season. Including starter Josh Beckett and the bullpen, Boston's pitching retired 24 straight batters to earn the comeback win. Star of the Game - The team That was a well fought, hard earned team victory. Yes, I could do the three star system here but I think for the Red Sox to bounce back like that after the previous loss to Baltimore says something about this team. ...

VOTE FOR YOUKILIS HEREWith two days remaining in the American League balloting for starters for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in St. Louis on July 14, former University of Cincinnati baseball player and current Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis leads New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira by 40,047 votes. I, Wanker

I did it again, folks. I gave up on the Sox. Wrote them off when all looked grim, convinced we were on the cusp of getting taken to the woodshed for the second day in a row by a team with guys named Aubrey, Ty, Felix and Gregg with two Gs. But the Sox battled back, perhaps every bit as sick with their performance the night before as I was. And they turned what looked like a lost...

Haaaaaaaaawaii it's hard to drive there from heeeeeere

Hey there boys and girls. So how about today's game? Way to turn **** around after last night's epic fail. They were down 5-1 in the bottom of the 9th when Youkilis homered. Then with 2 outs, they tied it up with the tying run being brought in by Rocco Baldelli. Then in the 11th Julio Lugo, of all people, drove in the winning run. And the bullpen bounced back pretty well...

2009 American League All-Star Ballot Update – 6/30

It looks like it’s going to come down to the wire Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis and second baseman Dustin Pedroia in the American League All-Star voting. After being behind in last week’s update, Youk has now moved back ahead of New York Yankee’s first baseman Mark Teixieira by just over 30,000 votes. Youk [...]

Turnabout is Fair Play

(Photo from Yahoo! Sports)Okay, someone hold me. I really think we're in the end times. First the Sox blow a 9-run lead in epic fashion last night to the lowly Orioles (love you, Baltimore, mean it), and then today they stage a comeback of their own, giving Baltimore a taste of their own medicine. The whole comeback thing isn't that strange but what is, is who played the...

Isn't Payback Fun?

I have to admit after the Red Sox fell behind 5-1 this afternoon, I thought this was a game heading for the "L" column. The Red Sox looked like they sleepwalking through this contest, one of those "it's been a long road trip, let's get on the plane and head home games". They had just four hits in eight innings against Orioles rookie Brad Bergesen.They...
