Despite not trading up to get DT Sedrick Ellis in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Bengals still managed to upgrade the position (and add LB Keith Rivers) with 3rd rounder Pat Sims. Sims is the run stuffer the team has lacked for years and combined with Domata Peko, has provided the Bengals with their best defensive tackle combination since Tim Krumrie was playing (of course you could argue that isn't saying much). The team has also added Tank Johnson to the mix as a pass rusher and their is still hope 5th rounder Jason Shirley can contribute. While none of the previously mentioned players is pro bowl worthy, considering the depth at the position it would be a surprise if the team selects a defensive tackle earlier than the 5th round. BJ Raji would be a surprise 1st round pick but is worth the 6th overall slot.Despite investing heavily in up and coming pass rushers Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom, the Bengals pass rush remains one of the worst in the NFL. Depth behind Geather and Odom is extremely questionable as former 3rd rounder Frostee "No relation to the Snowman" Rucker has been a bust, Eric Henderson can't stay healthy and Jonathan Fanene is a try hard run stuffer whose greatest asset is his ability to play inside and out. As a result, of the team''s questionable defensive end talent an early DE selection is very possible on draft day. Multiple DE picks is very possible.DT:Late Round Sleepers (Rounds 5-7): Corvey Irvin, Clinton McDonald, Demonte Bolden, George HypoliteDE:Round 1 (6th overall): Brian Orakpo, Everette BrownRound 2: Larry English, Michael Johnson, Paul Kruger, Connor BarwinMid-Targets (Rounds 3-4): Brandon Williams, David Veikune, Lawrence SidburyLate Round Sleepers (Rounds 5-7): Stryker Sulak, Will Davis, Matt Shaughnessy, Maurice Evans, Nick ReedDefensive Tackle RankingsDefensive End Rankings

Bengals Mock Draft Big Board 4/12

With the 2009 NFL draft less than two weeks away, I have once again shortened the timeframe for the Cincinnati Bengals Mock Draft Big Board, which now includes only mocks updated in the last 10 days. The impact of the Tank Johnson signing is obvious: DT B.J. Raji, who led the board for the last couple [...]

Bengals must trade Ocho Cinco now

So last year Chad Ocho Cinco demanded a trade by appearing on every talk show under the sun and explicitly demanding a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals. This year Ocho Cinco is going about it in a different manner — he is ignoring the Bengals all together.Ocho Cinco is refusing to return calls from the coaching staff and teammates, including Carson Palmer, in hopes to get...

Will the Bengals Trade Chad Johnson?

Last offseason, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson was begging and pleading (or was he demanding?) to be traded. This offseason, we haven’t heard a word from Chad and suddenly there are rumblings that he could be headed out of town — maybe to the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s what ESPN’s Michael Smith was saying [...]

Gosselin: Bengals Take Maclin Over Monroe

Rick Gosselin, the Dallas Morning News’ highly regarded NFL beat writer, has issued his first mock draft for 2009. His pick for the Bengals: 6. Cincinnati Bengals: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri Bengals need WR/KR to replace T.J. Houshmandzadeh Maclin at six would certainly be an unexpected choice, and one that would likely be greeted with loud boos by Bengals [...]

Bengals 7 Round Mock Draft

The staff of NFLDraft101.com conducted their 2nd annual 7 round mock draft this weekend and the results for the Bengals were encouraging although the 6th position in round one proved to be as difficult decision as tackles Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe were both off the board. After debating Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, Everette Brown, Michael Oher and Andre Smith, the staff...

A Different Type of Tank Rolls Into Cincinnati

Fears of character issues among Bengal players resurfaced this week with the signing of Tank Johnson and Leon Hall’s DUI charge. Driving under the influence is going to happen to the best of us as long as people transport themselves to places where alcohol is served. No one (sober) would tell you that driving drunk is ever a good idea, but almost everyone who drinks and has...

Tank Has Moved On to Cincinnati

After two years as a Cowboy, Tank Johnson has signed with the Bengals. ESPN has reported that they have agreed to a one year deal. Well known for his violation of the NFL’s conduct policy involving guns, Tank never really excelled in Dallas. He only had 22 tackles and 1 sack last season. He will join a team [...]
