Sheldon Souray can shoot a puck so hard even the other NHL players are impressed. On one shot last season, he injured two opposition players. He shoots the puck so hard from the point that it may actually be impossible for the goalie to move to stop it.He's a big man who is tough to play against and he has a mean streak. Although his lateral movement is a tad slow, he has an impressive wingspan and skates well, even better at times. I remember specifically a play where he broke his stick on a shot in the offensive end, was hopeless out of position but the entire transaction seemed to piss him off and Souray skated like a demon to get back into the play (and actually threw the puck carrier to the ice in a play that had a trace of Slap Shot in it).Why would the Edmonton Oilers trade Sheldon Souray? It may be the only way to acquire a pure scorer up front. Souray's goal total from a year ago (23) was good enough to lead the Oilers (he tied Hemsky for the honor) and he was legen...

Exit Ramp 4: Smid

Ladislav Smid may be heading out of town this summer. It's been rumored for quite some time that he's asked for a deal on more than one occasion and Smid was listed as one of three players heading to Ottawa in the Heatley non-trade.Smid played the least difficult opposition among the Oilers big 6 last season and it's also true he didn't have the best helpers out there...

Oilers deal Sestito

The Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Tim Sestito to the New Jersey Devils for a conditional draft choice. Sestito is an AHL level player, he's had a cup of coffee in the show. He went 51gp, 5-3-8 with 77 pims (-14) with Springfield and played a game with the Oilers. He'll turn 25 at the end of August.

Runaway Trukhno?

History tells us the really good skill players skip the American Hockey League and go to the show from junior, college or Europe. Recent Oiler examples would be Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano. One of the strongest indicators we can get about prospects and their future comes as they turn 20 (most of the time it's 20, exceptions were Gagner and Hemsky). If the organization...

Spin

As the warmth of the sun finds its way to the hinterland, the big brains on copper and blue avenue are dusting off the book of spin. We've seen a few articles already, with items like "Nash is bigger" and in terms of Jordan Eberle and a roster spot "things might be different this year."Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson is in Sweden, but if he was in Edmonton we might...

Ales Kotalik...

Well, he's no Alex Tanguay, but Ales Kotalik is now a New York Ranger. He comes fresh off a 43 point season (in 75 games), but he scored 11 in 19 after being sent to Edmonton from Buffalo. In fact, he's had 2 43-point seasons in a row and has only cracked 60 once, in 2005-06, where he had 25 goals. That was the only season of his career where he's had a full docket of...

New York Rangers: My Advice to Glen Sather, "Get Souray"

The New York Rangers are in desperate need of a power play quarterback. Rumors have heated up that a trade is on the horizon involving a Western Conference team. The Rangers' beat writer Steve Zipay seems to think that the possible teams involved are either the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, or Edmonton Oilers. If this is true, I can only say one thing, "Get Souray...
