From Jimmy Vrentras:Manager Joe Girardi didn’t say whether Jerry Hairston Jr. will get his second start of the series Wednesday night in right field against Pedro Martinez. Hairston, who has had success against Martinez in his career, got the nod ahead of the struggling Nick Swisher in Game 2. Hairston, who went 1-for-3 with a strikeout against Martinez, said he’d be ready either way.“I’m always prepared to play,” Hairston said. “If I’m in the lineup, great. If I’m not, I’ll just be ready to go.”If it were up to me I'd start Swisher, even with Hariston's good numbers against Pedro. Swisher looked better at the plate in Philly and is always a threat to draw a walk. Either way I don't think it will make or break the game.

Oh, I get it — Nick Swisher is being ironic!
New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher sure thinks highly of himself, don’t he?
The soon-to-be journeyman player was giving interviews from his posh locker at the Yankee Stadium clubhouse yesterday (nice newspaper clippings, asshole) with an obnoxious message on his computer screen that read, “Hello My Name Is Swagger.”

The Yankees Are World Series Champions
With their backs against the wall, needing a victory to keep their season alive, the reigning WFC failed to capitalize with men on base and as a result the New York Yankees are world champions. Pedro Martinez seemingly never had a chance against this potent Yankees line up, Hideki Matsui specifically. The Yanks got four off him early, tacked on a few more against the Phils pen, and...

WS Coverage: Pedro’s Fastballs
Tonight Pedro Martinez takes the mound again for the Phllies. Dave C noted before the series that Martinez is still a solid pitcher, but very prone to giving up the long ball. That is just what we saw in Game 2, he got 8 Ks to just 2 BB over 6 innings, but [...]
Loaded for A-Rod
Pedro Martinez loads the bases with one out in the third on a single, walk and hit by pitch. That brings up Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod can give the Yankees a huge lead here.

Update: Pedro hits the outside corner [...]

2009- Baseball Magic
Last night the New York Yankees did something that they haven't done in nearly a decade. They reversed the trend of steady decline I've seen since I first became a fan in '04, they gave many young fans their first championship, they won one for the Boss, they vanquished the demons of '04 and '01 by pummeling an old villain, and they proved to everyone that the...
Yankee fans can gloat, then float
Tina Lewis had been nervous all day, but really there was no need. This was a done deal, as soon as the Bleacher Creatures found our voice and Pedro Martinez lost his fastball. We're his daddies, in case you didn't hear.
Manuel decision aw-Phil
It was not quite Grady Little, but it was close. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel left Pedro Martinez in Game 6 last night to face Hideki Matsui in the third inning despite the fact that Matsui had already homered off Martinez. And despite the fac...
