CHICAGO -- Josh Beekman replacing Frank Omiyale at left guard is not the only personnel change made this week by Bears coach Lovie Smith. A league source confirmed Hunter Hillenmeyer will replace Nick Roach at middle linebacker, with Roach moving back over to the strong side linebacker spot. Hillenmeyer, in his seventh NFL season, is believed to have a better grip on the mental aspects of playing in the middle. Roach struggled at times making proper checks on the field, although the coaching staff also played a role in the on-field confusion, habitually sending in calls late from the sidelines. With more experience under his belt, Hillenmeyer may be better suited to improvise in those difficult and fast-paced situations. Roach started nine games on the strong side in 2008, and began the season as a backup to Pisa Tinoisamoa, before replacing Tinoisamoa early in the first game against Green Bay. Roach went on to start the next two weeks at strong side, before moving to the middle a...

They're out of their element
It's always tough to win, to force your will on an opponent, but it's nearly impossible when you create a reward system based on draft status, contract numbers or personal ego. Bears coach Lovie Smith seems to understand. He was asked if he was worried about looking as if he's playing the blame game by benching left guard Frank Omiyale in favor of Josh Beekman.
How do you fix the Bears?
What better time to tweak the lineup than this Sunday at home against a 1-6 Browns team that has scored less than 7 points in 4 of its 7 games this season?
The Browns have also allowed 27 points or more in 5 of their games. So why not shake up the lineup and light a few fires under some rear ends?
I’d like to see Josh Beekman get a shot at left guard, where Frank Omiyale has done...
No Need for Covert Operation at Halas
Will Browns coach Eric Mangini lose a wink of sleep wondering if the Chicago Bears start Frank Omiyale or Josh Beekman at left guard? Uh, no, he won't. So why is Lovie Smith being so secretive?
Changes are Coming for Bears
It would be crazy if the Bears didn’t make some changes after the Benson Bowl-over last Sunday. As the Bears start to prepare for the Browns, there’s all kinds of news coming in from Halas Hall today.

Put Bears brass on firing line
I've been wondering since 4:15 Sunday afternoon how precipitously the Bears have to tumble for the right changes to be made. Not changes like Josh Beekman over Frank Omiyale, or a few more carries for Garrett Wolfe instead of the tap-dancing Matt Forte.
Smith upset with questions about personnel
LAKE FOREST, Ill -- If the Chicago Bears are planning to make any personnel moves, head coach Lovie Smith is intent on keeping that information private. "Okay. I'm not going to talk about anything personnel wise," Smith said. "That's pretty clear. So, if that's all you want to talk about, there's nothing else to talk about." Later in the press...
Harris steps it up with full practice
Josh Beekman's promotion at left guard and Hunter Hillenmeyer's return to middle linebacker were not the only changes made Wednesday at Halas Hall.
Change Finally Brewing On Offensive Line
Word from down at Halas Hall should bring smiles to the faces of Bears fans today. Although it's not official yet, there was news that Josh Beekman is finally taking some reps at left guard with the first team offensive line...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...

Dan Pompei writes a column claiming that defensive scheming is the reason Greg Olsen's been underwhelming this season. It's a ridiculous column. If Greg Olsen is the elite-type player his ability suggests, he needs to beat nickel corners in man coverage. If Greg Olsen is the elite-type player his ability suggests, Ron Turner needs to anticipate the opposition...
