Found July 26, 2009 on Surviving Grady:
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
PLAYERS: John Smoltz

John Smoltz avoided the "one bad inning" syndrome by sucking in all five he pitched today. Is there really anyone left out there that thinks this guy can pitch in the majors, let alone the AL East? He is getting lit up by teams like Washington, Oakland and Baltimore. I sure as hell don't want to see what the Angels or Yankees would do to this guy.Mr. Smoltz - you had a great career, get out with your dignity. Please.

That's what Im saying! I remember when everyone was saying how Smotlz was def going to win his debut as a Sox pitcher against the Nationals... MLB's worst team.. and what do you know? He gives up like 4 quick runs, and make it hard for the team to try to get the game back... And we lost! To the friggin Nationals!! He seems to have a lot of trouble against these under .500 teams... It does make me wonder if we'll be able to even pass the Yanks or Angels, or any above .500 teams with him... The A.L. is the hardest league in the MLB in my eyes, and he seems to be having trouble...

It's tough to take. Brad Penny went seven strong the last time out and it would have been eight innings if Melvin Mora didn't have a fourteen pitch at bat. Smoltz worries me. I have to admit that I gave up on Ortiz with his ridiculous slump earlier this season. I never thought he would come out of that. I hope Smoltz can pull out of it.
