Five years ago today the Washington Capitals selected Alexander Ovechkin with the first overall pick in the 2004 Entry Draft in Raleigh. Draftgeeks at the time knew well that hockey in Washington would be forever changed -- but as much as it has in these past five years, well, probably not.It's worth taking a perusal back at the scouting sentiment of Ovi for that fortuitous moment. Fedorov signs 2-year deal with Russian club

Sergei Fedorov is returning to his homeland. Nineteen years after defecting from the Soviet Union, the former NHL MVP and winner of three Stanley Cups has signed a two-year contract with Russian club Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. Fedorov's agent, Pat Brisson, called the Washington Capitals on Thursday to inform them of the 39-year-old forward's decision.
