Winning a Super Bowl, or any championship for that matter, is usually cause for celebration. However, the losers are left to cope with the pain of winding up just short of greatness.Such was the case for San Francisco 49ers fans late Sunday as their team was handed a narrow defeat in the title game. Some of them took to the streets to express their displeasure which led to approximately 26 arrests, including one man who was jailed after allegedly trying to set a tree on fire. Wait, what? From the San Francisco Chronicle:Twenty-five people were arrested before, during and after the game for being drunk in public, Officer Albie Esparza, a police spokesman, said Monday. Another man, whom police declined to identify, was arrested on suspicion of arson after he tried to light a Mission District tree on fire after the Niners’ 34-31 defeat, Esparza said. The man ran from police but was tackled at the intersection of 16th Street and Rondel Place, Esparza said.In October, San Francisco police also dealt with an incident involving fans after the Giants won the World Series. Fans reportedly smashed windows and burned trash in the streets following the victory. However, no reports of someone trying to light up a helpless tree surfaced.
