A Good Win.

Posted December 01, 2013
Th e Eagles finally beat a team with a winning record. With the win they jump ahead of the Cardinals in the wild card positioning placing themselves just behind the 49ers for the final spot. The Eagles win this game, but it wasn't easy for the. Arizona's defense put a lot of pressure on Foles and McCoy. The Eagles in the second half either chose to stop going to the TEs or the Cardinals just shut them down. The Eagles receivers seemed to be getting a little pushed around on the outside. Foles wasn't great, but still accounted for over 250 total yards and three touchdowns. Once again it seemed as if the Eagles took themselves out of rhythm by trying to run the clock. Two big Eagles penalties hurt, but Arizona completely falling apart in the end saved the victory. These are the kind of games the Eagles were losing in the beginning of the year. It should be noted a key reason why the Eagles defense is playing much better as of late is simply due to the fact THE EAGLES OFFENSE IS NOT MAKING TURNOVERS. Trent Cole seems to be turning the corner and with his current play I'm sure is making it harder for the Eagles to get rid of him this offseason. The Eagles are going have to learn how to close out games better. They need to figure out how to maintain their offensive flow in games. Still this is a win this team can build on. The Eagles now control their own destiny. If they keep winning they are in.

  • We can nit pick about how they closed out the WIN but it's much better than discussing how they lost a game they had in hand. Would have loved to see Foles complete some of those late throws but overall he played well...especially when considering how few starts the kid has so far. He and Kelly should keep improving...looking forward to it.
  • I'm not going to bury Foles. So many third and long situations.... How can it all be on him?
  • Strange play calling today. Some really bad penalties put us in 3rd and long as well. Fact is each quarterback should get 3 seconds to throw the ball and Foles didn't have that amount of time for most of the game.

Offensive line has to do a better job against these good defenses otherwise the next game can be a loss
  • Give some credit to the Cardinals too. They were playing some dominate football at the line of scrimmage. They were putting some serious pressure on Foles and frankly Foles the young guy held his own against the pressure compared to the old vet Palmer.
  • If you think that their defense is scary, wait until next week when we play the Lions!
  • The Lions are big in their front seven, but I think Foles can handle their secondary. I think Shady is going to have the tougher day.
  • If they can keep him upright, I can see Foles having success against Detroit's secondary. Our secondary vs. Megatron though, that's terrifying.
  • The Eagles corners have been allowed to play a bit too physically in my opinion (not complaining though). If the refs keep letting Fletcher play his game you never know.
  • I think Foles has more to learn but Eagles look fresh and healthy. Im beginning to believe. I like Chips play calling and the defense keeps improving. If the Eagles can continue I see no reason they cant become a threat in a playoff scenario. I live where tthe team was counted out and an after-thought but won a superbowl. it can happen. This team needs to take that mental leap and I think anything is possible.
  • Honestly I agree with you on the things can happen part. Anything is possible in the NFL, but personally I think some of Chip's play calling is left to be desired. I think he tries too hard to establish the run game in the second half of games. It throws off the rhythm of the offense and they never seem to get it back. His Brad Smith wildcat play was stupid. Why take the ball out to the hands of McCoy and Foles, and place it in the hands of a guy who was just signed off the street? Seemed like something Andy Reid would do.
  • that was a bonehead move. Funnything is Reid still not running from 1& 1/2 yds out on goaline. Smith threw interception. You have Jamaal charles and a 1st dwon and you throw. WTF. The clock management was a little strange and I agree with you about the game plan. The second half was bad. They could have dialed upa afew McCoy screens. I would like to see 4qtrs full throttle. we will get tested vs Lions The Cardinals practically beat themselves but the D was solid. The main thing is that Foles learns. he held the ball a little long at times but he didnt give it away. Thats a sign of maturity. Overall he did OK and still playing at a good level. If the season stopped today it would be very difficult to convince fans we need to draft a QB. Im even stomped at this point.
  • The play calling needs some second half improvements. I think part of this goes to some teams second half adjustments and Kelly's trouble with adjusting to those adjustments. He seems to be in a battle with himself on time of possession. He wants to make light of it, but it does seem his defenses are wearing down in the second half of games. As the weather gets colder he's going to have to develop the run game more. You can't keep giving good offenses extra time and chances.
  • It's not just the play calling. Foles needs to do better in the second half of games as well. His stat's looked great this week, but he was on and off a bit throughout the day. I want to see Foles be more consistent throughout the game.

It's ok to not score points, but we need to have a few drives that take this team 30 or 40 yards first. Going 3 and out over and over is not going to help this team win in big games.
  • 6-14 for 60 yds in second half. The read option didnt work in that half. They need alternatives EZ is right. That was agame where Cards had game measured but got clipped by a few questionable calls. I m not ready to place blame on Foles. They couldve tried a few traditional screens to keep the pass rush at bay. Obviously Foles isnt an option to run. But i dont think arians counted on the beautiful early game passes and probably thought he would go into halftime down 7. he miscalculated and probably should have come out attacking. his loss our gain. there are still things Foles can work on for sure but given the right players and a solid game plan he may be a longterm solution. not there yet but I have to admit he has taken large strides.
  • It would be nice to see Foles complete more passes to help keep the drives going but I think Kelly needs to keep doing what works early on. I think he half asses that quick play offense by running the ball a little too often mixed in with little dump offs which sometimes result in too many 3 and outs.
  • Almost seemed like Kelly got rid of the intermediate and long passes. IDK. There was more pressure and Kelly/Foles didnt seem to have options. That half is the only kind of play that gives me hesitation. They need to resolve this and I think Foles can compete a full 60 minutes. Alex Smith is making a caeer out of limited mistakes and capable passing all over the field.
  • In the second Kelly was still running the Zone Read and the Cardinals end kept crashing down forcing Foles to run with it and they would bring up the safety to stop Foles. Kelly continued to run it despite the fact the Cardinals had a stop for it. There were fa too many second and third and longs. Also the defense (albeit playing better) has to stop giving up big plays especially on third downs.
  • They didn't have the answer until it was too little too late.
  • Ou don't get the Eagles need to get much better at finishing these games, because I do think they need to find a better way. I think Kelly shouldn't take the pressure off until the other team submits.
  • Thats hard to measure. When you have Drew Brees you pile on the points because a mistake can be overcome quickly. With Foles I think he needs time to build on his success. there is no need to force him to score , make a mistake and put an opponent right back into the game. he made the cardinals earn it and they didnt. They made mistakes. I think for Foles it pointed out a weakness without costing him his confidence. turned out to be a good move by kelly.
