On January 5th the Mets signed Alejandro Machado to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.Machado was originally signed as a 16 y/o by the Braves and spent the first three years of his career in their minor league system until he was picked up by KC. He had two very good seasons in KC, one in adv. A hitting .314 and in his first exposure to AA hit .287. In 2003 at the age of 21 he was already with hie third team the Brewers where he struggled in AA hitting only .226.The next year he was picked-up by the Expos and his minor league career started to look promising. In 2004 between adv. A and AA he hit .306.In 2005 the Red Sox grabbed him in the rule five draft (minor league ) and at Pawtucket (AAA) he hit .300, named Rookie of the Year. In Sept. of 2005 at the age of 23 y/o the Sox called him up for 10 games, where he only hit .200.
