A QUICK LOOK AT THE NFC EAST.

Posted May 09, 2013

RIGHT now all the talk in the NFC is about RG3 and Redskins. How is his knee? Is his knee ready? Will he be ready for Week One? Did you see the jumping jacks? How is his knee? Are the Redskins the team to beat if RG3's knee is better? So how IS his knee? And so forth.

Don't look now but I think the Cowboys may be in the process of putting together all those pieces that they've had all this time. Finally instead of DeMarcus Ware being a stat collector who is invisible during crunch time, he's going to be an in-line DE allowing his DC to dictate interior protection schemes (G/T hard doubles, T-to-FB handoffs, shallow drops, etc.) instead of exterior protection solutions (chips, TE & RB help, etc.). Ware won't be as effective statistically, but his rep will force OC's to plan for him differently and thus will mean that the giants and Forekins have to throw away their old approaches to the Cowboys. Advantage: Cowboys.

Also ILB Sean Lee will be back and this time will be playing a dedicated MIKE role. I LOVE this guy's feel for passing lanes, but I HATE that he's employing it in Dallas.

If the Cowboys do take a step forward and win the NFC East this year, it'll be due to their Defense. They still need a return game, and some stability at RB. Right now, the estimation of Washington being the class of the division just because they won it last year (at the expense of possibly mortgaging their's and RG#'s  future), is way premature.
