For Oakland A’s fans that have never ventured to a visiting park, tonight is the first opportunity to watch a true marvel — a Yoenis Cespedes batting practice session.
Granted, it’s not the same as those BP sessions at O.co Coliseum, being thrown by Manager Bob Melvin, but it’s the next best thing. Well, technically, given the spotlight which Cespedes routinely shines in, this is actually better than the next best thing, it is the best thing, if you will.
A last minute inclusion into the derby, and not really picked by many of the “experts” that are already previewing the event, Cespedes is certainly a player that should earn some national recognition tonight just by showing up and swinging the bat as he does daily. He really should be the early favorite to win the event, yet he is being overlooked and downplayed as a likely 5th-8th place finisher.
