They sign no free agents… They trade for no stars… They run out a team in 2014 that is largely the same as 2013… THE LINEUP: Eric Young Jr. [LF] Juan Lagares [CF] David Wright [3B] Daniel Murphy [2B] Travis d’Arnaud [C] Ike Davis [1B] Ruben Tejada [SS] Matt DenDekker [RF] The Mets continue to lack any true protection for Wright who sees fewer and fewer hittable pitches.  d’Arnaud is over-exposed and flounders as a middle-of-the-order hitter and 5-8 in the Met lineup are as easy a bunch to put away as any in baseball.  Young’s speed is an asset to the team but his mediocre on-base skills are notable.  Meanwhile Lagares proves his inability to walk makes him a poor fit for the top of a lineup.  By the end of the year, the lineup has changed: Eric Young Jr. [LF] Wilfredo Tovar [SS] David Wright [3B] Daniel Murphy [2B] Cesar Puello [RF] Wilmer Flores [1B] Travis d’Arnaud [C] Juan Lagares [CF] Tovar isn’t much different from Tejada but his work ethic is enough to earn him a chance.  ...

  • I'd lighten up. The team has great pitching. Yes, they need help, but Lagares is destined to be a star, den Dekker may be okay, and if they move Davis, they'll at least make a decision. IMO, SS and a bullpen are key. IMO, Tovar may be okay. Kozma and Drew couldn't hit in the post season, so you can win without hitting at the position. Peralta wants too much. So, maybe they go internal. If Lagares breaks out, as I expect, and Duda hits .260 with 20 hr's, the team should be okay, maybe .500. But the bullpen needs help.
  • I think Sandy Alderson and his staff have been caught unawares by the speed in which this free agent market is moving? He wants to wait and see how things will develop but his lethargy has already cost him an outfielder that he should have had lined up on his radar, David Murphy. He also has not contacted Bronson Arroyo's agents to see if he would be available to the Mets, and at what price? Guaranteed he will lose out on Corey Hart and, Grady Sizemore too if he keeps up the pace of a snail. My interpretation is the Mets will be forced to trade the players they should be stockpiling the likes of Daniel Murphy, Cesar Puello, Kevin Plawecki, Rafael Montero, Darin Gorski, Steve Matz, Jacob De Grom and Jack Leathersich. The front office drooled over Bronson Arroyo but have yet to meet with his agent? The Mets or truly only able " to spend nickels. dimes and five dollar bills", to quote Sandy Alderson. Instead what does Sandy do? He meets with Jay Z over Robinson Cano who the Mets will never, ever be able to afford? Sandy needs to realize this market is moving with a Speedy Gonzalez frenetic pace so if he cannot get with it the Mets will end up trading their only real resources their minor league pitching.
