The game of baseball has seen pitchers exhibit plenty of control in displaying the ability to limit base runners and prevent the opposition from scoring. The best way that a pitcher can accomplish this is by not allowing batters to earn free pass from walking them, and another way is to have location and command of your pitches, so that you don’t give up a towering moonshot to the opposition. There are also some numbers to look at to determine how a pitcher is performing, and they are WHIP, HR/9 and BB/9. There is one pitcher this season that has shown he has control of all his pitches in his starts this season. The St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright is on a very impressive run for a pitcher through four starts. Wainwright has pitched 29 innings this season, and has looked like the ace of the staff, as indicated by 1.07 WHIP, 0.0 HR/9 and 0.0 BB/9. This is very impressive for a pitcher considering the amount of control that a pitcher would have to display to not allow either of...

The walk came with two outs in the sixth inning Tuesday night, in Wainwright's fifth start. He went 34 2-3 innings before throwing four balls to a batter. Citing the Elias Sports Bureau, the Cardinals said...

St. Louis Cardinals: Adam Wainwright finally issues a walk in 2-0 win over Washington

So far in 2013, St. Louis Cardinals' ace Adam Wainwright is showing that he is worth every penny of the five-year, $97.5 million general manager John Mozeliak gave him late this spring. Wainwright won again on Tuesday night, pitching into the ninth inning for the second time this year in the Cardinals' 2-0 win over the Washington Nationals. Wainwright is now 4-1 on the young...

Can Edward Mujica succeed as the Cardinals closer?

It appears that, with Mitchell Boggs' struggles continuing last night (0.1 IP, 4 ER) and the Cardinals not ready to turn the reigns over to rookie Trevor Rosenthal, who has struggled too, Edward Mujica is the Cards closer, as least for now. But can he succeed in that role? Mujica has been nothing short of spectacular in his short career with the Cardinals.  Since being acquired...

St. Louis Cardinals: 3 Reasons Joe Kelly should be used more often

No one would blame you if you forgot Joe Kelly was on the St. Louis Cardinals' roster. While most of the bullpen has been well exposed already in this season, Kelly hasn't seen the mound since April 15th when he pitched two scoreless frames against Pittsburgh. While Kelly hasn't been as sharp in 2013 as he was in 2012, he also hasn't been given as many chances, having...

The right-hander (4-1) lowered his ERA to 1.93 by going 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only five hits. Edward Mujica got the final two outs for his third save....

Yahoo: Shelby Miller s Making an Early Case for National League Rookie of the Year

Through the first three weeks of the 2013 Major League Baseball season, the St. Louis Cardinals have discovered some young talent in their pitching rotation. Shelby Miller, who had to fight his way into the rotation during spring training, has looked borderline dominant in his first four starts. The rookie hurler might be establishing an early case for the Rookie Of The Year Award...

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is out of the lineup against the Washington Nationals after feeling soreness in his right side during batting practice. Manager Mike Matheny said neither Adams nor the team's medical staff thinks the injury is serious. Adams originally was listed as hitting fifth Monday night. He's batting .524 with three homers and eight RBIs...

Fernando Tatis Has Taken to Taunting Chan Ho Park

On April 23, 1999, then-St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Fernando Tatis smacked a record two, count 'em, two grand slams off Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chan Ho Park in the same inning. Now, fourteen years later, Tatis has taken to Twitter to smack talk the Korean hurler. Now, I don't want to be this guy...but I will.  Sure, on that day, Tatis might've...

Cardinals 3, Nationals 2

Yadier Molina drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, backing Shelby Miller's strong start Monday night, and the St. Louis Cardinals returned to the site of their Game 5 NL division series victory last season with a 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals. The other big hit for St. Louis was Allen Craig's two-run double in the third. Miller (3-1) struck out eight...

Cardinals-Phillies Preview

(AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals bounced back, while the Philadelphia Phillies' performance seemed to suggest that the previous game was little more than an aberration. Philadelphia will turn to Kyle Kendrick as it tries to salvage a four-game split Sunday night at Citizens Bank Ballpark.
